New 'Deep Throat' needed for Iraq, says Nixon rival (McGovern)
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 06:56 PM by deadparrot
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US media needs a modern-day "Deep Throat" within the administration of President George W. Bush to reveal how America was "misled" on Iraq, former presidential contender George McGovern said.

"We need someone like that who is highly placed to tell us what's really going on. We know that we were misled on Iraq," McGovern told Fox News Radio.

McGovern, a former senator, unsuccessfully ran against Richard Nixon for the White House in 1972.

Deep Throat, revealed this week as former FBI assistant director Mark Felt, acted as a source to The Washington Post newspaper, helping to bring down Nixon's presidency over the Watergate scandal in 1974.

2. The few people who have squeaked have been roundly
dismissed by the media.

A leak is merely a match, the media is the oil lamp. Until someone allows a lamp to be lit their will be no sustained light.

9. 2nd that Colin Powell?????
I earlier on "felt" that Mr. Powell was an honest man. I saw a special on the life of Colin Powell, I found nothing there to change my mind. Then, like everyone else I watched in disgust as he presented his fictitious case for the invasion of Iraq. Did he really believe that stuff or was he coached by his masters? I want to believe that the Colin Powell I saw in that documentary is still out there and will come before the American public and "confess his sins"

24. No, he's with them.
Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst, says not only Cheney, but also Powell, made visits to Langley to make sure the CIA analysts got the intelligence "right".

7. This new group of American traitors all got their start during the nixon
administration. They learned a very valuable lesson: control the media and you control the message. The nixon dirty tricks gang and their disciples spent years scheming and manipulating to get to their present position of control. It wouldn't matter if Jesus Christ is the new "Deep Throat." If the media is owned (read: sinclair, clear channel, etc.) lock, stock and barrel by the Texas, white-boy, repuke mafia then the truth will never see the light of day. We need more than just another Deep Throat. We need courageous men and women whose loyalty is to the republic, not a political party or religious dogma.

I think the votes were rigged and the memorial for Wellstone was sabotaged.
Dirty Ch*ney and * were here bribing to beat the band and money from out of state ruled the airwaves. Our elections weren't half bad in 2004 and the tide is definitely against the neocons. I think!

15. And learned the lessons well from the nixon admin mistakes -
nothing is ever in writing here - or else it's "national security" secret.

only the peons do the dirty work and no one above is ever seen with them or knows them

every upper level seems to be removed from what lower levels do when there is a problem "we didn't know about it"

etc., etc., etc.

14. Any ideas on where we'll find the next Ben Bradlee...
An editor of a major paper who'll let a couple of cub Metro reporters follow a story that eventually takes out a sitting President? Only possible when a Katharine Graham owns the paper, not some errand boys for the Saudis.

16. Deep Throat-alikes will need us to support this legislation
Here's a good site I found with info on Whistleblowers protection legislation:
http://www.ombwatch.org/article/articleview/2821/1/1?TopicID=1

Does anyone know of updates to this information on the house and senate legislation now out there?

"Democracies die behind closed doors"
Published: 05/02/2005
National Security Whistleblowers Urge Better Protections

The National Security Whistleblowers Coalition met with key congressional committee staff April 28, stressing the important role of whistleblowers that disclose security problems, and detailing the retaliation these individuals then encounter. On the same day, Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) announced his intention to introduce legislation in the House to strengthen whistleblower protections.

(snip)

As reported in the last OMB Watcher Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI) is the sponsor of whistleblower legislation currently moving through the Senate. The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs favorably reported out the bill, S. 494, on April 13

19. McGovern beat Nixon
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 08:09 PM by Steve_DeShazer
in the long run. Nixon is dead, discredited, and was fully exposed as the crook he denied being on national television, despite the best efforts of bitter old turds like Pat Buchanan and the convicted felon Chuck Colson in their pathetic attempt to rewrite history.

Today, McGovern stands tall as a proud old man who achieved more good in his life than any lying Republican alive today.

Long live George McGovern. He was ripped off in 1972 because he told the truth. Now he has been proven right. Gods and godesses bless him.

25. Let's see
By Buchanan's definition we have had heroes(though no dream of an investigation much less a grand jury) who OPENLY outed enough verbatims to start a grand jury.

But the Nixonites learned. No tapes. Can't even identify a voice like Bin Laden lest people maybe suddenly GET a tape of W doing something other than assassinating the English language. Don't let reporters "get started". Don't let news editors "go there". Make one crime wag the dog for the next crime to take advantage of inaction and attention deficit.

Right, they got those bases covered so you practically have to hijack a MSM network, dump incriminating, fully authenticated video of a fantastically blatant sex crime just to corner the beast the news-avoiders have become.

McGovern's comments seem so innocent, so behind these times. A decent grand jury would have cracked any one of a dozen messes like a rotten egg. A real press could have "discovered" any of the same long ago and been duly shocked and heroic. Now they face mere shame of epic proportions to the point of criminal complicity against the public.

And Dem "leaders" like Carter, Kerry etc, etc, etc, etc, keep waiting fro some gizmo or populist horde(other than the Bushista thugathons)to PUSH the obvious against an unacknowledged fraudulent tyranny.

It is a dark dark comedy up there. And it's just killing us.

This proves mainly to me that McGovern would lose again running against a Nixonian crime machine.

The smoking gun argument, the second hand argument, the hearsay, the ambiguity, the bars raised and lowered at GOP will(then and now) are the same insulting lies to stop justice from posing a question, from beginning a process of absolutely necessary accountability.

From stopping monsters from savaging America like a wounded gazelle.

28. FU, headline writer
"New 'Deep Throat' needed for Iraq, says Nixon rival", indeed.

George McGovern, B-24 pilot, WW2 hero (DSC, Air Medal, more), US Senator, Democratic Party Presidential candidate, ambassador and recipient of the nations' highest civilian award, IS HIS OWN MAN.

He does not need to be "dumbed down" and framed in terms of his relationship to a crook and the only President to resign his office.

FU, headline writer!
