Final outcome in hands of NLRB

Board will rule on 183 challenged ballots

PETOSKEY - Whether a union will continue to represent nurses at Northern Michigan Hospital now lies with the National Labor Relations Board.

The federal agency will rule within the next few weeks on challenged ballots from Thursday's representation vote by nurses. How the NLRB rules will determine Teamsters Local 406's status - and could signal a huge turning point in a more than 2 ½-year nurses strike at the hospital.

Thursday's vote results show 195 nurses voted against the union, 109 for it. But 183 nurse votes were challenged; all but 23 of those ballots were cast by striking nurses that hospital management seeks to void. Management contends the strikers have been permanently replaced.

The NLRB's decisions on challenged ballots likely will determine the Teamsters' fate at NMH. <snip>

What a stinkin load: the boss "permanently replaces" the strikin workers, claims they got some petition to boot the union but don't let nobody see it, then lets the "permanent replacements" vote on the union question ...

And oh, yeah -- the boss's original plan was not to let the strikin workers vote at all:
