Texas Gov. Signs Bill at Church School
By JAMIE STENGLE

FORT WORTH, Texas - In a ceremony filled with religious references, Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill at a church school gymnasium Sunday that imposes more limits on late-term abortions and requires minors to get written parental consent for abortions.

The signing came as several hundred demonstrators _ some opposed to the signing of a bill on church property _ protested outside. <snip>

During the 90-minute program, Perry also signed a resolution to amend the Texas Constitution by banning same-sex marriages. However, that signature was only ceremonial since voters must approve the proposed ban in November. <snip>

Texas already had a parental notification bill, approved in 1999. The new, tougher measure requires a parent to provide written consent for unmarried girls under 18. The bill also restricts doctors from performing abortions on women who have carried a child for more than 26 weeks unless having the baby would jeopardize the woman's life or the baby has serious brain damage. <snip>

3. Just an update
There was some good coverage of the protests outside the church where Gov. Goodhair signed the legislation. The protesters were well versed in that they explained why they were there clearly. It was good coverage by, ironically, the local Fox news.

4. I'm leaving this state
I'll be out within the year. I consider myself a Texas refugee fleeing persecution.

5. I was born and raised in Texas
But at the age of 12, after my first visit to the Northeast, I knew I wanted out. So after graduating college, I happily left the state. Never regretted that decision.

I know Molly Ivins, bless her sainted soul, loves Texas. But I'll be damned if I can ever understand why.

9. Man the TX Rest Areas!
When you DU Texans find Gov. Goodhair having intimate associations, take pictures!

Even better if you you're in a house backing up to a rest area the Love Gov is playing in, and your kids are in the backyard!

Then distribute copies of all the pics to the fundie churches, with letters that say "look what your favorite Governor is doing in his spare time!"

Interesting thread..including Perry's comment:

"Texans have made a decision about marriage and if there is some other state that has a more lenient view than Texas then maybe that's a better place for them to live," Perry said.

------------
Yeah, well, we'll see how he feels about Texans' decisions when his ass ends up out of office next year...or when it doesn't even survive the repuke primary leading to the election. I look forward to him saying "Texans have made the decision that I suck as a gov and I will now slither back under a rock"
