Senator offers compromise on Bolton intercepts
The Associated Press
Updated: 6:20 p.m. ET June 6, 2005

WASHINGTON - A Senate Democrat has offered national intelligence officials a proposal in the dispute over obtaining classified information about John R. Bolton, President Bush’s nominee to be U.N. ambassador.

Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., told National Intelligence Director John D. Negroponte that the impasse over Bolton could be broken if officials reveal whether certain people were not mentioned in classified communications that Bolton reviewed when he was the State Department’s arms control chief.

Dodd offered to send Negroponte a list of names, and if none are in the classified intercepts, “the matter would be closed,” he said in a letter released Monday. Dodd’s office declined to say who may be on such a list, and Negroponte’s office had no comment.

Dodd, who spoke to Negroponte by phone and also sent him a letter, said he is not trying to prevent a vote on Bolton’s nomination, but believes the NSA information is critical for senators trying to make an informed decision.

3. An informed decision is based on facts, not the word of a weasel
And I wouldn't trust John "Death Squad" Negroponte any further than I could throw the Washington Monument. Considering the poor track record of this administration already, it's a sell-out to let them get away with producing anything less than the original documents, and Dodd should know that.

4. Bait and Switch
Dodd may already know the answer (through other sources), if they lie, he can bust them.

7. Show us where it says he "agreed to take Negroponte's word"
Dodd offered to send Negroponte a list of names, and if none are in the classified intercepts, “the matter would be closed,” he said in a letter released Monday.

Let us 'splain it to you, Lucy.
They send N. boy a list of names.
N. boy looks them over.
N. boy then tells whether any of the names are relevant.

See where I'm going with this?...

So, it's up to N. boy to tell us if any of the names are on the list.

Sure sounds like it's taking N. boy's word on it for me!

How the hell could you claim otherwise?!?!?!?!?!

they are just going to take his word for it.

I must admit that I do have a hard time comprehending the defeatist attitudes around sometimes.

I guess we will have to wait and see if they are going to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

I don't mind if you say I told you so, if they don't. At least I hold out some hope that things are going to change on our side.

What else do we have, or is it all a lost cause. Are you saying that we should just give up and let the neocons have the country.

Sorry, but I do not have anyplace else to go, this is my country, and I intend on staying here.

I defended her for ten years in the Navy, I am not about to give on it that easy.

So you just go ahead and enjoy your misery, while the rest of us stay the coarse.

6. This seems like a smart move to me . .
. . the pukes can say yes or no. If they say yes, we get the docs. If they say no, Dodd can offer evidence that they are lying and doing a coverup . . and we get the docs.

Dems win/win . . pukes lose/lose.

Dodd is moving his queen into position for a checkmate and the pukes can't do anything about it. What's not to like about that?

This is so damned mysterious. Does anyone have a clue as to whose names are at issue here, and why?

14. I think the dems know or suspect what is in the requested docs.
Thats why they want the docs and thats why the pukes don't want to give them up. If the pukes lie,, the dems can call them on it.

17. It's disgusting to think that the dems are offering to 'comprimise' away
the party's integrity AGAIN. The thought that these quislings are willing to deal with Negroponte, who is not what one would exactly call an honorable or decent human being, makes me ill.

No way should they cut any deals over Bolton. He does not belong at the UN.
