Idaho loses it's 1st Female Soldier In Iraq - 19 years old
Specialist Carrie French, 19, Caldwell Idaho, hit by roadside bomb

See www.Idahostatesman.com

She looks like a pretty and petite young girl. Her family says she's warm-hearted and fun-loving...or was

Bush's war.

2. My Sympathy
I have a daughter only 2 years older. Poor young woman. She was just starting to live her life to have it end so tragically.

May she rest in peace.

and our sins (not stopping this dirty war). I'm sorry Carrie and I grieve with your family and friends. I am heartbroken every time I see a young person's life snuffed before they even have the opportunity to explore it's marvels.

48. NO, she didn't die for US---sorry, she died for an ALCOHOLIC AWOL SOB
The Bastard!

They all died for him, his buddies, and the "corporate" interest in the region.

There is absolutely no reason for any U.S. troops to remain in Iraq.

They are NOT fighting for freedom.
They are NOT protecting us from harm.
They ARE sitting targets waiting to be taken out one at a time.

Troops home NOW!
Each and EVERY one of them!

And just as fresh of face. I wonder what other similarities they shared?

Whatever potential that young life held is now gone forever. Wasted fighting a war based on deceit.

18. I'm both humbled and ashamed that as an American
a nineteen year old child believes she must die for me. I don't want these children to die for me. It isn't right, it just isn't right. And no government, no president and no democrat or republican will convince me differently.

We don't bow our heads low enough. As a country we are shameful.

24. Wilfred Owen : "Dulce et decorum est.."
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.--
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Dulce et decorum est, Pro patria mori!

It is sweet and good to die for ones' country!

Bullshit. Been there (RVN), almost tried that!

39. She was a very pretty 19 year old
Her hometown is about 30 miles from where I live. I will attend the services. Even if I retch at some conservative GOP saying she died for a good cause.

I will be there.

Thanks for keeping this kicked. We need to realize these kids, boys and girls, are dying without cause. We need to demand a stop to this stupidity. We need to set aside some party threads momentarily to show them honor. We don't need to act as the GOP and pretend this war doesn't exist or our kids aren't dying.

We need to honor our dead. Especially our dead kids. Just because the GOP ignores them doesn't mean we should forget them.

She's the same age as I am. And she actually looks like me. I hope she at least was able to die right away, before the terror and loneliness.

It's so fucked-up that I'm saying that. How did we come to this, this country? Why are girls my age dying in illegal wars, far away from their parents? Why aren't they traveling, learning languages, stealing kisses in the moonlight, all the things that young people are supposed to do?

I don't really know what to say. I'll be thinking of them all tonight.

45. I dread seeing the fresh young faces
of soldiers, even when it is not their obituary. The same picture could be later, just like Carrie's.

Those fresh, eager playful eyes go off to see things we'd never want young eyes to see and are sometimes closed forever.

Those I knew who joined the National Guard over the years did have a desire to help in times of need (along with the perks), but they never envisioned war.

I wonder how many of those whose eyes won't open again are being assured they would not be sent to Iraq if they joined. I have a friend whose sons joined recently with that very promise. Is that their latest hook?

My heart goes out to her family, to all of the families here and there who are grieving losses from this war.

Just think about all the kids in Iraq for a moment, please.

This is a tragedy, and it is up to US to stop it.
