Slow response to CIA leak inquiry - MSNBC
Less than a day before the deadline to turn over documents related to the CIA leak investigation, only about a quarter of White House staffers had complied, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Monday after President Bush reiterated his promise of full cooperation.

MORE THAN 2,000 White House staffers were asked Friday to review whether they had any information that might be relevant to the Justice Department investigation. In a memo obtained by NBC News, White House counsel Alberto Gonzales said all materials had to be turned in to his office by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
By early Monday evening, less than 24 hours before the deadline, only about 500 had turned in a signed memo and documents, McClellan said. Many were staff members who simply certified that they had no relevant documents, he added.

I thought this story was about why it took 2 months for any actions to be taken in the first place?

1. What incriminating evidence is going to be found on Documents?

As a DU'er said here a couple of days ago. I don't think they wrote down "Expose Plame to get back at Wilson" on checklist somewhere.

Nope, not me. How 'bout you?
Nope. Got nuthin'.
Gee, too bad.

Ashcroft: Well, we looked and there was nothing there. Move on.

4. So what else is new?
This is just pathetic!
It is like asking the bankrobber to hand over any
evidence of the bankrobbery.
They need to arrest and then go in on there own and
rip the damn place apart.

5. They're just waiting for it to go away
and it will.

<sigh>

BTW-per previous poster- I'm sure somewhere in DC there's a yellowed piece of paper that states "Going to Dallas on Friday to off JFK, signed________". It's that old smokin' gun dontcha know.

6. I think phone logs could be interesting, IF they are followed up...
with cellphone logs and lie detector tests. And remember, there are several officials at the White House that think Karl (almost certain to be one of the leakers) has gone too far.

7. That's a good point. The phone company will have unshredded records
that -should- be immune to diddling by ASScroft's cadre. Maybe.

8. Wait! Are they looking for records pertaining only to Novak?

"The order covers all electronic records, correspondence, computer records, notes and calendar entries that could relate to the investigation of who disclosed the CIA officer’s identity to syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who identified the woman on July 14. Employees must sign a form saying they had turned in materials or did not have any items related to the investigation."

What about the other reporters that were said to have been called? Have I missed something? Is everyone else off the hook now?
