MassMutual yesterday intensified speculation over the firing of CEO Robert O'Connell when it disclosed for the first time that O'Connell's ``conduct'' was behind this week's stunning move.
``The matter of Mr. O'Connell's conduct, which was behind the board's decision yesterday, does not have any affect on the company's financial position,'' a spokesman said following questioning by the Herald.
The admission elaborates on the company's previous description of events, which referred merely to ``issues'' leading up O'Connell's dismissal.

The Boston Globe is reporting that

MassMutual may say very little about the termination of its chief executive, but it reveals even less about the departure of other top managers. Susan Alfano, an executive vice president, left the same day O'Connell was fired. Ann Lomeli, a senior vice president and co-general counsel, left the next day.

And the business cheerleaders are all quick to jump in saying that MassMutual is fine finacially. If there is fraud involved here, wonder if the media will even report it.
