Congressional subpoena seeking base closing data to be served

PORTLAND, Maine — Sen. Susan Collins said Tuesday that a congressional subpoena was being served on the Pentagon to secure the release of all material used in its recommendations to close about 180 military installations across the country.

The subpoena was being issued by the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of which Collins serves as chairwoman. Collins, R-Maine, said the decision was made in consultation with Sen. Joseph Lieberman, the committee´s ranking Democrat.

The subpoena gives the Pentagon until Monday to produce a variety of data including spreadsheets, e-mails, memoranda, handwritten notes and telephone logs, Collins said in an interview from Washington.
