SCLC Calls for National Protests in Taser Death

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (AP) -- A civil rights group called for national protests today after failing to win agreement from Gwinnett County's chief prosecutor to reopen an investigation into the death of a jailed black man who died after being repeatedly stunned with a Taser.

Charles Steele, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, said he will "bring the whole world to Gwinnett County."

Steele and other civil rights leaders who met with District Attorney Danny Porter have accused the DA of withholding critical evidence in April from a grand jury that investigated the death of 31-year-old Frederick Williams. Steele said it showed there is racism in Gwinnett County.
