Rumsfeld visits Norway
By Matt Kelley
Associated Press

STAVANGER, Norway — The United States and Norway have agreed to changes in the amount and kind of U.S. military equipment stored in Norway as part of the United States government’s worldwide realignment of its bases. <snip>

A small group of protesters was among the crowd watching Rumsfeld’s arrival at a hotel here. One carried a hand-painted American flag with a drawing of President Bush labeled “terrorist” on it. <snip>

Flags, jokes mark Norway's 100th
Tuesday, June 7, 2005 Posted: 9:08 AM EDT (1308 GMT)

<snip> Several hundred people waving Norwegian flags clapped as King Harald, on his first official duty since a heart operation in April, and Queen Sonja drove in sunshine to parliament for a ceremony marking the 1905 split.

As they left, six people were arrested for lying down in the street in protest at a visit to NATO-member Norway by U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld later on Tuesday. Police said Harald's car was not hindered. <snip>

7. Did Rummy visit to stock up on lutefisk? Could be.
Or was it to join the annual running of the lemmings? Hard to know.

Or was just doing a little pre-invasion reconnaissance? Who can say?

8. Norway is an important ally.
http://www.navytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-899025.php
"Norway has 369 troops in Afghanistan, mostly in the NATO-led international security force headquartered in Kabul. There are 15 Norwegian military personnel in Iraq."

It's good to see Rumsfeld working with European allies. We need that sort of cooperation.

17. Amnesty wanted difficult questions asked of Rumsfeld.
They wanted Minister of Defence Kristin Krohn Devold to ask Rumsfeld questions about Guantanamo etc., but she said they'd already decided the topics of discussion. She's not very popular, and is one of the contributing factors to the very probable defeat of her coalition government in the elections in September.

Oh, and hei til alle norske på denne tråden :hi::hi:

18. That's enough of this, Norway. Do what we can't do.
Just arrest Donald Rumsfeld, please put him on trial for War Crimes. He should be granted no immunity and should be prosecuted.
