Clark Touts Building Bridges (at Iowa Town Hall With Harkin)
<...>

A Hear It From the Heartland Forum at Iowa Central Community College was the setting for Clark’s remarks. Joined by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, who served as the forum moderator, Clark addressed an invitation-only crowd of about 200 Democrats in the college’s gymnasium.

Clark and Harkin entered the gym to the tune of ‘‘Ring of Fire’’ by Johnny Cash.

‘‘If it’s a ring of fire, let’s bring it on and let’s put that current administration in that ring of fire,’’ Clark said.

His remarks were interrupted repeatedly by applause, and he received two standing ovations.

3. hit alert
I believe that anything to do with any of the candidates should be considered news, provided it doesn't come straight from the campaign itself.

5. I saw it twice....was actually better on the 2nd viewing
Part of the problem is that many expect so much from this non-careered politician. Actually, I believe that he has a disarming charm in not being too polished.......to smooth might be too much.

In addition, I believe that his answer about the Israel/Palestinian conflict was a weighted approach, that lines up with the long standing American position on Israel....the problem is too complex to come up with more than a general response. Clark doesn't need to put out controversial statements that will emflame the issue. He only needs to assure me that, as President, it would be a top priority and that he has the recipe and the temperament for dealing with the problem.... and also to reassure me that the bottom line agenda for that conflict is a lasting peace. So on that issue, I give him the benefit of the doubt.

In reference to domestic issues, I'm sure that he will flesh it out over the coming months. No need in rushing out with something that may not be sound. I like my President to analyze, research, mull over and discuss issues with great minds prior to handing me a piece of paper. It really boils down to whether I think he has the where-with-all type of mentality that will allow him to come up with the best proposals.....and that, I believe he does. He seems like the kind of man that will surround himself with the best minds, and compare to Prez Bunny Pants, I think that the General will do an outstanding job on that too. His answer about the type of Attorney General said it all for me; an attorney that knows the law, understands democracy and does not have an hidden agenda....well said General!

Many of those "program proposals" that politicians put out don't get implemented in their original form anyway...Many factors such as the type of congress is the majority, how many amendments get added and what gets trimmed. So for those who like details, maybe he can't satisfy those people right now. But I believe that he has the correct overall vision. Also remember that he is not a Senator or a Congressman....so he doesn't have the type of staff that's already really put this stuff together. No matter....the shit never ends up looking like it did at the beginning anyway.

All in all, the man is a gem! Again, I don't like my politicians too smooth...let him have a few rough edges.....he's a human and he has humanity....his eyes convey the "I can feel your pain".....in the same way Bill Clinton used to be able to make that case with the sincerity in his voice. A couple of folks have even said that the General lacks passion....I don't see it that way. I just pick up his passion as being a quiet, determined, understated and based on experience type of passion.

To conclude, I find that he has vibes of empathy for all, yet he doesn't try to sell it to you. What a relief!
