DeLay joins fray over map
Tries to mediate redistrict deadlock
By R.G. RATCLIFFE
Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle Austin Bureau

AUSTIN -- U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on Monday tried to finish what he started months ago by mediating a legislative impasse between Republican leaders over how to draw a congressional redistricting plan.

"I'm a Texan trying to get things done," said DeLay, R-Sugar Land, as he spent hours engaged in cross-rotunda shuttle diplomacy between House Speaker Tom Craddick and the state Senate leadership.

"There is progress being made. People are working together," DeLay said. "We're close. We're just working out the specifics."

DeLay prodded the GOP-controlled Legislature into tackling congressional redistricting in April.

2. Reps power-grabs
>>"I'm a Texan trying to get things done," said DeLay

Well. I'm a Texan saying DeLay can kiss my as*.

This is just part of a larger plan of power-grabs the Reps feel they cam pull off with no consequences. I belive they are overreaching and there's a turn to the tide.

I'm liberal but I'll never make the mistake of giving ANY political quarter to these assholes.

Show 'em the black flag as Stonewall Jackson was so eager to do!

8. Our best hopes in Texas are the courts
The obvious power grabbing and greed demonstrated by TX repukes will be their downfall. They are in such a hurry to pass something that it should be easy to shoot down in the courts. We know they are violating the Voting Rights Act, and they are doing it by packing more minorities in districts that already vote Dem or are already electing a minority Representative. By moving these voters from districts that are minority influenced districts, they are violating the VRA. If the courts enforce the law as they should, then they have to throw out these maps as illegal. Things of course still end up screwed in Texas because the actions of these TX Fascists are causing our presidential primary to be moved from our Super Tuesday March 2nd date. There has been a lot of talk that this is being done even on purpose, that way Texas Dems don't have a say in who the Democratic nominee is. The repukes don't care because bu$h wins either way.

Read a first hand account of the continued abuse of the repukes from Texas Rep Jim Dunham (he lead the House Republicans when they bolted for Ardmore) here:

10. Super Tuesday Setback
I haven't read the news today but I know as of yesterday evening that if the Lege didn't ratify a redistricting map before midnight that this would official push the primary date for Texas back from the Super Tuesday date.

Disenfranchised once, delay-disenfranchised twice...oh what will the third time be?

Nice job, you bootlicking clowns.

11. watch them eat their own young!
out in west Texas I'm enjoying the latest stupid battles that are now Replicant vs. Replicant. Seems that carving up the state into nutty districts does indeed promote more Replicant office-holders but...makes some strange bedfellows in the local power structure. Out in Lubbock they are mucho unhappy with the very Replicant new district that keeps the party "right" but ruins all that power building over the generations. My heavens, as one person said on the news "they might be conservative but they might be different kinds of conservative"

COME TO MY STATE, WATCH EXCITING REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT IN *ACTION*!
