Senate confirms Brown to federal judicial post
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate voted 56-43 Wednesday to approve the nomination of California judge Janice Rogers Brown to the U.S. Appeals Court in Washington.

On Tuesday the Senate had ended a two-year filibuster of her nomination, hewing closely to a historic deal to avert a partisan showdown over judicial filibusters.

It takes 60 votes to bypass a filibuster, a total that Brown's Republican supporters have not been able to muster since November 2003, when they were only able to get 53 votes for the conservative California Supreme Court justice.

Republicans have argued that Brown was worthy of confirmation to a court that many call the second most important in the nation, one also viewed as a stepping stone to the Supreme Court. Brown would be the second African American woman to sit on that court, which decides important government cases involving separation of powers and the authority of federal agencies.

*sigh* another victory for the "Constitution in Exile" types, another loss for the Constitution

11. It's better than the alternative, which is 100% of their judges going
through.

13. Well, considering they only agreed to let 4of them come to a vote
in exchange for not removing the filibuster, that leaves 6 of them.

2. Yes, I was watching. It was no surprise!
Is theere somewhere we can view rulings she makes as an appeals court judge? I want to watch to see if she turns out to be as bad as we think!

14. Did any dems vote yes?
If so, they should quit the Dem Party now and join the Rethugs.

15. Yes, and no prizes for guessing who it was.
According to The New York Times, all 55 Republicans (so much for moderation) and Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) voted for Dr. Evil.
