Front-Runner for Public Broadcast Agency Job Is Former GOP Chair (WP)
By Paul Farhi
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, June 9, 2005; Page C01

A former co-chairman of the Republican National Committee is the leading candidate to take over the agency that funds public broadcasting, sparking new concerns among broadcasters about conservative influence over National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Service programming.

Patricia de Stacy Harrison, a high-ranking official at the State Department, is one of two candidates for the top job at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and is the favored candidate of the CPB's chairman, Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, according to people close to the search. The CPB is a congressionally chartered agency that directs taxpayer funds to PBS, NPR and hundreds of radio and TV stations.

Harrison's background in political advocacy has alarmed some public broadcasters, who are concerned that she would compromise CPB's traditional role as a "heat shield" that protects public broadcasting from political pressure by Congress and the White House.

1. I contribute to PBS and will stop my donations
but that will help them do away with PBS and NPR which is what they've wanted all along. But we will get back the WH and all the rest and get rid of these right wing fanatics.

3. One more reason to turn off the MSM.
Get your news here or from the Guardian. They can't stop all news from the left.

The ministry of propaganda has taken over everything in this country. We have to deal with it.

10. National Propaganda Radio and Propaganda Broadcasting Service.
Can't have shit like "NOW with Bill Moyers" asking if the Emperor is buck-assed nekkid or not...

And Barney sings "I love You, You love Me, let's all vote for the GOP..."

Today on National PUTSCH Radio they got mail on last week's story about the Librarian who told the FBI to GFT when they demanded the records of who had been reading a book on Been-Forgotten. First letter out of the bag said "Perhaps she should look up the definition of 'Treason'..."

Thank you, Ms. Coulter, keep them letters coming, babe.....

So why do I listen to the BULLSHIT?

Because I can't hear the BBC on shortwave anymore. CBS lead off this AM with Pretty White Girl in Aruba and Jacko's midnight ER visit, and my local stations are into that "Morning Zoo" bullshit that appeals to 14-22-y-o males....

Oh, I don't have Cable, either. $45 a month for the Food Network is too much.

11. WAMC (NPR station) is fighting this...fund drive this week
The director of the station, Alan Chertok (SP?) is spearheading a fund drive to fight Tomlinson and the repub govt this week. He is a unapologetic critic of this administration. If you want to give to a NPR station (and you can stream this station on your computer) give to them. They are willing to stand up to the bullies in Washington DC and not have their programming dictated to them. As Chertok says, when Tomlinson told them their programming needed to reflect the "republican mandate given in the election of 2004" it was time to fight.

12. screw the republicans/neocons
and to hell with the information ministry and the republican/xtian nazis. If it comes to fighting in the streets, well, it is fighting in the streets. (before they haul all of the non fundy xtians and critics of busho et. al. of to the prison camps they've been building at military bases. That's also a good purpose for the bases they propose 'closing' - great for housing dissidents and 'trouble makers'.

14. Think the freepers are going to donate
to NPR? When they lose our money, they'll have to rely on corporate cash. Great. Another media swallowed up by corporate spin. NPR will be ClearChannel with Mozart.

17. Propaganda
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 02:48 PM by MountainLaurel
Is how a State Dept. employee can be knowledgeable about communications -- been sending it overseas for decades. Apparently, she's been directly involved in U.S. efforts to create a news station disbusing bullshit to the five Iraqis who have electricity at any given time (which I'm sure will be spun by the American-paid "reporters" as a positive for the people of Iraq: No electricity in your rubble-strewn home? Consider it a living history experiement).

18. I receive a dun every other day from PBS.
Finally wrote and told them to remove my name from their mailing list. I will not be donating again, as I do not support Right Wing organizations. They are having a fund drive here at present. Last night I looked in on it and their entertainment featured Pat Boone as their host and the performers threw in a religious sounding song every now and then. It was truly a lousy 'show'. The McGuire sisters looked embalmed, and so did Pat. Sick. Audience seemed ecstatic.
