HPD denies mistreating Halliburton protesters
Report prepared for council lauds 'professionalism,' but some marchers blast the findings

Houston police deny mistreating protesters at the annual meeting of Halliburton shareholders last month, according to a report by the department released Wednesday amid accusations of officer misconduct.

Learning from the Halliburton protest last year, when police underestimated the number of demonstrators, HPD officials were prepared for the roughly 200 protesters with mounted patrol officers and a designated protest area, according to the report.

The majority of protesters followed police direction, but several smaller groups grew violent with officers after being blocked from leaving the protest area near the Four Seasons Hotel, where the Halliburton meeting was held, according to the HPD report.
In one incident, a mounted officer was knocked off a horse by a hurled bicycle. One police horse was severely cut, Ready said.

Brackman said she was pushed by an officer in the chest with a baton, even after she had obeyed his instructions to get back on a sidewalk.

1. I saw videos of that incident and it was troubling...

Definite example of excessive force by law enforcement. No doubt about it! There are videos of the protest...just can't remember where I saw them. Very disturbing behavior! It was frightening.
