City losing 169M in 9/11 funds
WASHINGTON - The feds are expected today to take back $169 million in misused and unspent 9/11 relief money meant for victims of the terror attack, congressional officials said.

...snip...

Federal officials said that because much of the money wasn't spent, it was no longer needed. But New York officials insist it is part of President Bush's $20 billion pledge to the city in the days after 9/11.

"Instead of figuring out how to help those who still need help recovering from their work at Ground Zero, the Bush administration is spending their time taking back 9/11 money," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan).

...snip...

On top of that, the House Appropriations committee also plans to withdraw an additional $125million earmarked for workers' compensation for first responders, unemployment payments and retraining for workers who lost their jobs.

1. Well the mayor and governor of New York are Republicans
But I hope that this travesty will make some of their supporters think twice.
