This guy is a bad character, and I don't doubt there is something WAY bigger that he is involved in and fears exposure. This could get good. I loathe this scumbag as much as I do the core BFEE crowd.

6. Either that or it's the case of rats leaving the sinking ship first
Which I'd almost put my money on these days. Something's in the air, and the rats are going to start looking out for themselves.

10. Maybe he fears his exposure to the voting machines
If he gets out of office there is no conflict of interest.
Also he is required to report all publicly held stocks etc.. He has not done this on his ties to the voting machine companies, says they are not public. But this lie has been shown to be wrong.

30. It's 2004
Unless he came in on a partial term. He was elected in 1980, so he is finishing up his 4th term in 2004.

Keating and Watts are best bests on the GOP side. I wonder if the new Democratic Governor will be tempted to jump in here.

46. PGA
Nickles is probably going to head up the PGA and if this is really true we in Oklahoma need to find a viable candidate that will not just represent the right wingers. However, Watts, Largent, (Keating has moved to Washington area)have strong name recognition. Perhaps Walters or Orza may consider.

Having said that, it will be a bit of an uphill battle to pick up that seat for the Dems...there aren't too many Dem politicians who are household names around here, and Walters got trounced in '02.

Is Garth Brooks available? He's a hardy Yellow Dog Democrat.

40. If I'm not mistaken...
... There was a second Republican in that race who self-funded milions of dollars and took better than 100,000 votes? And we won by something like 5,000?

Do you have any plans to get him to run against Watts or Largent this time?

Otherwise, it will take a massive victory for out Presidential candidate to pull off an upset in OK.

And anything is possible in politics. If one only does what's been done before then there is never any progress.

Ok, so OK will be tough. But the right person at the right time can move mountains. It is possible. No seat is set in stone for one party or the other for all time.

We have a chance to take the Senate back and I do believe more people are getting sick of what's happening here.

Before he died, I had to read in The Nation how Paul had supposedly "sold out."

Pathetic. The left wingers of the Democratic Party are worse than the rightwingnuts of the Republican Party. At least the rightwingnuts are willing to compromise a tad to get power and keep power (ie. their support of Der Gropenfürher).

because he played football in Okie.

It doesn't matter if his brother is a murderer or that he banged every white girl in Okie and fathered some bastards.

Conservative morals take a back seat when a Republican is immoral.

IF there are lots more white females in OK than African American females... wouldn't that be worse?

Also, though borderline offensive, I suspect "Evil" was trying to channel conservatives in a funny way.

42. I don't think it is immoral.
But the fundie Christians who control the Repuke party don't like a "mixing of the races" (ie. the unacredited Bob Jones University).

Don't imply that I'm being non PC. I'm pointing out the hypocrisies of the Republicans. When their guys screw up, they dismiss their "moral" failings (Dan Burton and the bastard kid, Bob Livingston and the New Orleans hookers, Newt Gingrich the serial adulterer, Uncle JC Watts and his bastards, Henry Hyde and his "youthful indiscretions" committed when he was forty years old, Bob Barr keeping abortion clinics in business all by himself). They understand the big picture--power. But it was OK to impeach Bill Clinton on blowjob charges. That was immoral.

The only thing I like about the freepers is when they are true to their feelings (they are openly bigoted and racist). Then I know I can dismiss any "points" they make without guilt.

The only things I don't like about DU are the indignant posts at everything perceived to be non PC. Well that, and the stupid Democrat candidate bashing going on.

"Clark is a trojan horse neo con."
"Dean is actually a right wing elitist who will say anything to win."

52. NO WAY Watts Would Win
JC Watts is persona non grata with the Oklahoma Republican party. He couldn't raise a dime in OK. He had MAJOR baggage that was going to be released on him; that's why he didn't run for re-election to his congressional seat. Tom Cole wanted it. What Tom Cole wants, Tom Cole gets in Oklahoma GOP circles. The Repubs will probably nominate Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys. All the big names in the OK GOP are expected to fall in line behind him. Unfortunately, he will probably win. So, here is this guy:
http://www.okc.gov/query.html?council/mayor/Mayor_new.html
UNLESS....Brad Carson runs. If Carson runs, he might make a race out of it. AND....as I was typing, somebody told me Carson is 99% sure to run. He is a Rhodes scholar, a brilliant young politico and a moderate - not a Zell Miller at all.
http://carson.house.gov/

Nickles, truly, was not expected to run again. He is wrong on most all the issues, but he honestly is NOT close to the Bushies. In fact, during the last term, he really moderated many of his stances (The unemployment thing aside...that was nuts).

Could be interesting if Carson gets the necessary backing from the national party. With the balance SO close - I don't think they can afford to write-off Oklahoma. Especially after 2003. Story there was that Oklahoma DID just elect a Democratic governor with hardly ANY support from the national party. They didn't think a dem had a chance. Wrong. Pie on the face. Another reason TM should be GONE from the DNC.
