Fear of Iraq quagmire affects US politics

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Fear of a Vietnam-style quagmire in Iraq has colored US politics in the six months since US-led forces ousted Saddam Hussein's Baath party regime.

Polls have indicated a growing skepticism among Americans over whether the US-led invasion was worth it. Support for the war has suffered from controversies over Iraq's alleged nuclear, biological and chemical weapons as the justification for war.

Democrats who seek to oust US President George W. Bush in elections next year have seized on the public doubt.

One of them, retired general Wesley Clark, recently called for an independent investigation into how intelligence was used by the Bush administration to convince US citizens of the need for war.

1. I'm convinced that they're screwing up on purpose now.
They can see the writing on the wall, and they know that without either massive electoral fraud or even more massive stupidity there's no way in hell they'll get another term, so they're making as big as mess as possible to leave for whichever Dem gets elected next, so they can foist all the blame off on him.

Gee, I can't imagine why the public would be getting more skeptical. Maybe it's because the corrupt Bush administration LIED????

a possibility of one... imminent threat of one?

NO IT IS ALREADY HERE!!! Has been for months now! When will the stop talking about it as a POSSIBLE 'future' event?
