Judges order disclosure of secret study on GM risks

12 June 2005

Judges have ordered the publication of a secret study which has raised fears that eating GM food may harm human health, after it was revealed in The Independent on Sunday last month.

A court in Cologne last week granted Greenpeace access to the 1,139-page study - by the giant biotech firm Monsanto - which found that rats fed a modified corn had smaller kidneys and raised levels of white blood cells and lymphocytes compared with those fed a non-GM corn.

1. Monsanto is evil personified
One of the most rapacious companies in the world and a prime example of why laissez faire capitalism is bad. Too bad the study didn't show that GM food caused smaller penises or baldness. Then we would see some outrage. Who cares about kidneys - we have two anyway.

2. And plenty can be harvested from poor people.

It's always interesting when you say something that clicks the light on for somebody.

I was telling a co-worker about Monsanto, and how evil they are. Explaining how RoundUp really works.

She said, no, that's sold by Scott's!

I said, hit the website, come talk to me in a bit.

She came up, and was depressed, and said I had no idea. They GM the food to protect against the Round-Up, and they sell it.

I added "Then they sue people who live next to Round Up Ready fields, because the crops end up on their land, and they didn't pay the annual royalty fees."

I hope we're able to pull our selves out of this hole we're in. But between the Monsantos, Halliburtons, and Feds allowing all of this, I don't know.

8. Are you literally half the man your Father was?
'Gender-bending' chemicals found to 'feminise' boys
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7440

“Gender-bending” chemicals mimicking the female hormone oestrogen can disrupt the development of baby boys, suggests the first evidence linking certain chemicals in everyday plastics to effects in humans.

The chemicals implicated are phthalates, which make plastics more pliable in many cosmetics, toys, baby-feeding bottles and paints and can leak into water and food.

SNIP

In animals, AGD is reduced by phthalates - which mimic oestrogen - which keep testosterone from doing its normal job. At higher doses, animals develop more serious abnormalities such as undescended testicles and misplaced openings to the urethra on the penis - a group of symptoms called “phthalate syndrome” in animals.

SNIP

And although all the boys had genitals classified as “normal”, 21% of the boys with short AGDs had incomplete testicular descent, compared with 8% of other boys. And on average, the smaller the AGD, the smaller the penis.

There has been stuff like this coming out for years but in spite this no government is doing anything about it yet. Maybe it will take them finding out it causes shrinkage in adult males for them to take action :/

4. It'll be interesting to see if the study itself supports the claim
made in the article:
"Monsanto - which dismisses the differences between the rats as pure chance - supplied the study to safety authorities on condition it was kept confidential."

I.e., are the differences (statistically) significant?

Even if they aren't, I'm surprised about two things: (1) that nobody's replicated the study, and (2) that it runs to over 1,100 pages. Unless, of course, it contains all the data.

9. Nazi connection to Monsanto -GM Very BAD, + Cross Pollinates- Poison
http://www.wnho.net/nutrapoison.htm

The Nazi connection to Monsanto crops up again on the board of directors with John Reed, a former crony of "Putzi" Hanfstangl, a Harvard -- bred emigre to Germany who talked Hitler out of committing suicide in 1924 and contributed to the financing of 'Mein Kampf'. 21

Reed is also chairman of Citibank and long a confederate of the CIA. According to a lawsuit filed by San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli, Reed was an instigator, with Ronald Reagan, James Baker and Margaret Thatcher, of the "Purple Ink Document," a plan to finance CIA covert operations with wartime Japanese gold stolen from a buried Philippine hoard. 22

Other covert military connections to Monsanto include Dr. Charles Allen Thomas, chairman of the Monsanto Board, 1965. Dr. Thomas directed a group of scientists during WWII in the refinement of plutonium for use in the atomic bomb. In the postwar period Monsanto operated Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratories for the Manhattan Project. 23 (Manhattan gestated with the Oak Ridge Institute for Nuclear Studies, where Lethal doses of radiation were tested on 200 unwary cancer patients, turning them into "nuclear calibration devices" gratis the AEC and NASA, until 1974. 24 )

Nazi scientists and a 7,000 ton stockpile of uranium were delivered to the Project by its security and counter -- intelligence director, Col. Boris Pash, a G2 designate to the CIA's Bloodstone program -- and the 'eminence grise' of PB/7, a clandestine Nazi unit that, according to state Department records, conducted a regimen of political assassinations and kidnappings in Europe and the Eastern bloc. 25

Monsanto Director William Ruckelshaus was an acting director of the FBI under Richard Nixon, a period in the Bureau's history marred by COINTELPRO outrages, including assassinations.
