Christian Coalition: Gays Should Wear Warning Labels
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/06/061305pride.htm

The leader of a conservative Christian lobby group says that gays should be required to wear warning labels.

"We put warning labels on cigarette packs because we know that smoking takes one to two years off the average life span, yet we 'celebrate' a lifestyle that we know spreads every kind of sexually transmitted disease and takes at least 20 years off the average life span according to the 2005 issue of the revered scientific journal Psychological Reports," said Rev. Bill Banuchi, executive director of the New York Christian Coalition.

The journal regularly publishes articles described by many mainstream psychologists as misleading and faulty. The homosexuality morbidity study was conducted by the conservative anti-gay Family Research Institute.

191. Eye of the needle
I seem to recall hearing something about a camel and a needle when I was a kid....gee, I wonder where it came from?

Money is NOT "just a tool" -- it takes form and pattern when left to its own devices. This is why the ancient evil god of money was named Mammon and why we have a concept of a "free market" being able to work out its own problems.

194. Are you saying that money is actually alive?
If I leave a $20 bill to "its own devices" - like sitting on my dresser, it'll just sit there. It won't take "form and pattern".
Money, like anything else, can be used for noble or ignoble ends.

Someone once said "The trouble with socialism is socialism. The trouble with capitalism is capitalists". Greed and heartlessness is the problem, not money.

They are not "alive" yet they execute measurable patterns of behavior. Not to belabor the point, but the very concept of the "free market" with an "invisible hand" absolutely depends upon this notion: you are living in a culture that absolutey believes that money is an independant force.

Listen to ANY capitalist tell you about "the market" and then tell me they don't belive it has patterns of behavior.

On edit: I've even heard some go so far as to say that market forces are a "natural law", which (at least to my mind) completely transcends the concept of "living organism" and moves in into an even larger sphere, where the idea of "Mammon" begins to make more sense.

70. How about a big red "A" for adulterous spouses?
They spread disease, too. How about a big black "I" for fathers who commit the crime of incest? Maybe a big blue "C" for child abusers?

There is no worse disease than the spread of ignorant prejudice.

in addition to Jews. Although the Jewish community got the brunt of Hitler's rage, other groups as well were persecuted and routinely executed by this epitome of right-wing regimes. These included:

- socialists, unionists

- lefty intellectuals and college professors

- Gypsies

- homosexuals

RIGHT WING politics.

In the last few years I've seen a lot of right-wing pundits muddying the waters and obfuscating the facts. One of their claims now is that Nazism was not right-wing, but a form of "left wing."

Bullshit!

What worries me is that it's somehow catching on.

Anyone with a knowledge of history knows very well Nazism is a extreme right-wing philosophy.

Ask any European, They know.

Don't let them fool you with spin. Republican spin-meisters are determined to make night day, and tell you that black is white. And now it's in vogue to spin it as "if it's "bad", then it's gotta be lefty."

Nazism is the extreme right wing of the political spectrum. In Europe today they call neo-Nazis "ultras", as in "ultra right-wing."

131. Nazism is viruntly anti lefitst and extremely authoritarian.
It would be hard to get more right wing than the Nazi's.

The thing that gets some people confused (mostly because it is often presented dishonestly) is the fact that The Nazi Party was originally one of many small socialist groups in Germany, but Hitler made short work of that.

Remember that at this time workers around the world are pissed off and mobilizing and threatning to take over societies.

Nazism, like other forms of facism (including the classic US strains) was largely a response to mobilization of the people, but at the same time it fed off of the people.

By creating elaborate myths with powerful rhetoric and a system of scapegoating, facists are able to convince workers that class conciousness is itself a deception, and the actual causes of thire problems arent the rich people exploiting them but whatever stigmitized minority and political enemies happen to present and the ominous foriegn powers they actually work for.

In turning class conciousness into facism, these social engineers do hijack a great deal of language from leftism. Basically they take all the things that people like about socialism and democracy and put them with all of the things people like about authoritarianism, and pretend that is thier position, while all things people dont like about authoritarianism and all the thigns people dont like about socialism(most of them lies) is the position of those stupid/evil/crazy leftists who must be stopped or society will be destroyed by its own sins.

college professors, liberals, moderates and all of the people who just plain got arrested or killed incidentally.

Its very important to rember all of the people that history tends to forget because it gives us a much more informative tale of what went on in Germany, especially since one of the reasons Jews were an enemy is because Judiasm has a strong liberal intellectual tradition that made jews one of the most prominant groups in the leftist movements of the time.

The Nazi's may have been mainly after the Jews, but the people who put the Nazi's in power wanted them there to stop the workers.

But about 100 years ago it was perfectly acceptable for men to have numerous mistresses, yet their wives were shunned for the same behavior. The rationale was that a husband didn't bring a bastard to the marriage but they sure as heck brought all sorts of sexually transmitted diseases to the marriage. That behavior certainly was celebrated, just look at the story of Don Juan. Women had a fifty/fifty chance of dying in childbirth, probably from all those diseases the promiscuous husband brought to the marriage. Yeah, heterosexual behavior sure sets the standard for health and longevity.

39. Well, not ALL Christians
I'm sure you meant to qualify that. After all, I will be marching with several members of my congregation in Sunday's Gay Pride Parade under our church's banner along with folks from 40 or so other congregations representing all sorts of Christian denominations as well as Unitarian Universalists, Jewish temples, and non-sectarian congregations. So it's not ALL Christians or all peoples religious who wear blinders on this particular issue.

What I'd like to see, though, is every talk show host with a Republican guest for the next two weeks put up Rev. Bill Banuchi's hateful comments and demand that their guest either agree or disagree with this lunatic. After all, that's exactly what happens when someone makes an odd comment from the left: Every Democrat is buttonholed and forced to denounce the comment or the speaker or risk being ridiculed as a fellow traveler.

Let's see equal treatment for the Republicans: "Do you agree with Mr. Banuchi? Would you like to see, for example, Republican homosexuals labeled? Why not? Doesn't the leader of the New York Christian Coalition speak for all Republicans everywhere? Denounce him and alienate a bunch of people in your base, or we will tar you with a broad brush as a hateful bigot!"

46. revered scientific journal my @ss
* . . . Psychological Reports, which was ranked 69th (of 97 journals) for impact in 1994 and 53rd (of 84) in 1995. Other approaches to ranking the prestige and significance of journals have similarly ranked Psychological Reports at a low level in comparison to other psychology journals.

. . .Psychological Reports is also different from the vast majority of psychology and social science journals in that it requires contributing authors to pay a fee (in 1996, $27.50 per page for longer articles). The practice of charging a per-page fee or requiring purchase of preprinted copies of the article is rare in psychological and social science journals. Such per-page fees are not charged by the high-prestige psychology journals (e.g., those published by the American Psychological Association).

I think there was never any doubt that these types are nothing but fascist theocrats. If there ever was any, this disabuses those doubts forever. Can you imagine the national outcry if this type of thing had been said about a minority other than homosexuals? 49. Oh no, I'd better tell my elderly gay friends
that they died years ago. I'd feel bad about missing their funerals, except they missed them too.

Honestly while I see the stats on the life span of gay men would be affected by AIDS (though my elderly friends are male) I am puzzled by their belief in the gay women part. Lesbians would have a lower rate of "every kind of sexually transmitted disease", much lower then straight women.
As far as that goes the old testament only talks about men that lay with men, nothing about lesbians. So...since they have fewer diseases and God doesn't hate them, shouldn't they be the only group not wearing a warning label?
Or perhaps we should just have men who are not monogamous, of either sexual orientation, and their partners, of either sex, wearing the labels.
As a straight woman I like penises quite a bit, but they are the spreader of those diseases. Why didn't God put a warning label on them?

178. Death & Disease.
These true nutball rightwingers WORSHIP death.

They hope and pray for the APOCALYPSE, for cryin' out loud. They don't give a whit about the environment, because they're all going to fly up to heaven in their birthday suits, and leave us sinners here.

They got TONS of money from the tobacco industry, from at least 1950 or so, when they met in a conspiracy to hide the truth about what a hazard smoking is.

Tobacco is more dangerous than just about all the nests of terrorists you can round up....

Tobacco use accounts for 8246 tobacco deaths per week (old CDC figures 1998-99). The US government says smoking cessation saves lives and reduces smoking-related health care costs and is one of the most cost-effective health interventions available. The government spends $520 million a year on tobacco control efforts (1998), or less than what we spend in 3 days on the war in Iraq.

As for who is dangerous, if you're a woman -- men are.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
IN THE UNITED STATES
http://www.now.org/issues/violence/stats.html
National Organization for Women

MURDER -- Every day four women die in this country as a result of domestic violence, the euphemism for murders and assaults by husbands and boyfriends. That's approximately 1,400 women a year, according to the FBI. The number of women who have been murdered by their intimate partners is greater than the number of soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.

BATTERING -- Although only 572,000 reports of assault by intimates are officially reported to federal officials each year, the most conservative estimates indicate two to four million women of all races and classes are battered each year. At least 170,000 of those violent incidents are serious enough to require hospitalization, emergency room care or a doctor's attention.

SEXUAL ASSAULT . Every year approximately 132,000 women report that they have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and more than half of them knew their attackers. It's estimated that two to six times that many women are raped, but do not report it. Every year 1.2 million women are forcibly raped by their current or former male partners, some more than once.

So, the #1 thing a person could do to protect Americans in general, or him or her self: QUIT SMOKING.

The #2 thing, arguably, is to change the culture of masculinity from one of requiring men to demonstrate domination and aggression to a culture encouraging men, and women, to learn cooperation, communication, and respect for others. And, to learn that violence doesn't solve a problem, either between individuals, or countries.

67. On our way to mass hysteria and persecution by the Xians.
This is beyond an expression of faith. This is beyond a strict interpretation of the bible. This is beyond personal choice and preference.

The Xians have crept their way into the social consciousness with radical, bigoted, activist beliefs and proposals such as this. We have slowly been socially acclimated to their insanity so that when someone makes a statement like this, we accept it with resignation. This seems so much like the second coming of Hitler, fascism and Nazi-ism.

Why do we not hear anyone in our government crying out against this? Why don't we hear any opposition in the ranks or the Xian demagogues?

Tolerating and accepting these people will only embolden them. Most people who claim that God speaks to them are regarded as insane,, or at least with a great deal of skepticism. Somehow, being a Xian allows you to say that God has spoken to you with a straight face, and then be revered as some kind of semi-deity by your local congregation of psycho-babble.

I am THROUGH tolerating these people.

79. Fundamentalist Christianity attracts people...
...who have fairly serious psycological and emotional problems. Problem is, it usually serves only to deepen their illness by giving them a certain license to continue antisocial behavior. Their leaders, who are remarkably unburdend by conscience, freely use them to further their own interests - which are Money and Power.

I agree that rational people should stand their ground, and call fundamentalism what it is, but we must realize that when we do so, we are confronting mentally disturbed individuals who feel they have little or nothing to lose.

Yeah....they get all coo-coo-bananas over being called "White Christians" but its ok to suggest one group wear labels as a warning? Riiight....that was an idea that has a history of playing out well...just ask the Jews. What a bunch of asshats the Christian Coalition is composed of.

If your going to force some absurd notion upon the gay community, then the Christian Coalition has to to wear a warning label too. I want to know right off the bat, what kind of fucked up insane person you are before I even waste my breath on you.

Better yet, if a gay man or woman is dying in the street.. (wearing their label) and Christian coalition person is right beside them, this label saves me the trouble of worrying about who to save.

Warning: although you may find this person "hot," there is no guarantee that this feeling will be reciprocated. Upon rejection, you should immediately remove yourself from the vicinity of the person and re-examine your assumptions.

There's lots more fun labels we could use. I can't wait for the bi labels!

97. Do people accidentally have homosexual relationships?
People are not like hairdryers. "Danger Electric Shock: Do not immerse in water".

People are not out there having sex with same-gendered others because they are unaware of the risks of sexually transmitted disease, homo or hetero or otherwise. They are having homosexual sex because they like it. Because they are built that way.

It seems like every single day I read something that confirms my belief that I co-exist with a lot of fucking stupid people. I guess this is that piece for today.

And as a straight-but-not-narrow person myself, I would like to apologize to gay DUers on this moron's behalf. We are not all like this. Really.

152. In the lifetimes of all gay and lesbian people

it was illegal to have concentual sex in 14 states, including Massachusetts (2003). In the lifetimes of most gay and lesbian people it was legal to fire people solely for being gay or lesbian in all 50 states (1988). In the lifetimes of many gay and lesbian people being gay or lesbian was considered a psychological defect (1973). In the lifetimes of most gay and lesbian people one of the first openly gay politicians was assassinated in San Francisco and his killer (who also killed the mayor) got 5 years. (1978)

Today gays and lesbians can only legally marry in one state, and have marriage equivalents in two others. There are 14 states in which it is illegal to discriminate in housing, employment, and other like matters. It is legal to have concentual sex in all 50 states. Fortunately no openly gay or lesbian politicians have been assassinated in recent years but many hate crimes still get shockingly low sentences.

In short, it hasn't been that long since gays and lesbians have been without any basic rights. I think the time that people fearing a return to the bad old days being considered paranoid has passed. Given the source here, I will hold off on the specific report given here but it wasn't that long ago that ELECTED OFFICIALS were suggesting tattooing AIDS patients. I am being to become very afraid for myself in this country. I hope that it is an overreaction, but I would rather over react and prevent an non existent threat from becoming existent than underreact and allow a non existent threat to become existent.

On edit, the dates in parenthesis are the dates upon which the statement became untrue. Thus in 2003 it was no longer illegal to have concentual sex in those states.

The guy the conducted the so called study is from a group the Southern Poverty Law Center as a "hate group".

In fact, the "study" in question was done by Paul Cameron, the head of a hate group - literally, the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled Cameron's group a "hate group" - Cameron was thrown out of the scientific profession twenty years ago for his hate research. But that doesn't stop the Christian Coalition from using hate literature and proposing Nazi solutions to brand gays.

For me it all became apparent on "election night" 2000 and the aftermath with SCOTUS.

On election night he said, "After all, how much damage can he do? He will have SMARTER people around ADVISING him." :eyes:

205. nice...
thats what we should call these ultra right wing "christians", who actually seem to do nothing but abuse and pervert the religion for their own ends. Its a shame to see a good religion be destroyed by them, we should call them by a different name.

189. The Christian Sneetches
are famous for trendy fashion and cult identifiers. It should not be hard to bell the cat and get them wearing one of those code crosses etc so that no one might mistake them for "ordinary non-Armageddon voting Christians. That and the signature fanatic saccharin smile.

That Sneetch story by Dr. Seuss stars the Bush prototype Sylvester McMonkey McBean(who robs everyone and gets away with it after they learn their social equality lesson).

199. Being a Nazi is inevitable to staunch conservatives.
You simply take quotes from Nazis, ask high school students who agree with them and almost all are republicans.

We had a Red Scare, but what, NO NAZI SCARE!

Nazis infiltrated the CIA and FBI.

Bush family values + Auschwitz + bin Laden
