N.J. Court Rules Against Same-Sex Couples
By JEFFREY GOLD, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 28 minutes ago

NEWARK, N.J. - A state appeals court ruled Tuesday that New Jersey's Constitution does not require the recognition of gay marriage, rejecting the efforts of seven same-sex couples who sued the state to allow them to marry.

The panel, in a 2-1 decision, affirmed a lower court ruling that said legislators must change marriage laws before same-sex couples can wed.

Without legislative action, "there is no basis for construing the New Jersey Constitution to compel the state to authorize marriages between members of the same sex," Appellate Judge Stephen Skillman wrote for the majority.

Appellate Judge Donald G. Collester dissented, saying that if marriage is defined strictly as a heterosexual union, couples are denied the right to marry the person of their choice and so have no real right to marry.

The dissent virtually assures the case will be heard by the state Supreme Court.

I think I am going to start a match-making service for gay and lesbian couples. They legally marry each other's partners and get all the tax, health and retirement benefits heterosexual couples are entitled too.

Plus, they get the bonus of becoming members of a group marriage. That will surely tick somebody off somewhere.

Uuummmm . . . as a family law attorney, I can say that that's *old* news, meaning that it's been done that way for years. However (and with all kidding aside), such an "arranged marriage" does not afford protection, in law, for any of its partners nor for their children and/or their children's children.

6. Well There Goes My Idea Of Pulling Myself Up by My Bootstraps
:banghead: Thought I could start a little web site and and be part of the American Dream... oh, well.

It just blows my mind that Mass. has the lowest divorce rate in the country and the gay marriages didn't seem to cause it to sky rocket in the last year.

Heck, even my 72-year old Dad thinks gays and lesbians should be able to marry... wait in his country they can.
