U.S. House votes to cut United Nations contribution
hour, 44 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - America's contribution to the United Nations next year would be cut by $22 million under legislation approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The proposal does not specify which U.S. contributions to the UN would be reduced, said Rep. Scott Garrett (news, bio, voting record), the New Jersey Republican who wrote the measure.

It was attached to a bill that would provide $57.5 billion for several U.S. agencies in the fiscal year beginning on Oct. 1, including the Justice Department, NASA and the Commerce Department.

The House is expected to pass the bill on Wednesday. The Senate has not yet debated its version of the spending bill.

House Republicans are pushing separate legislation, which is scheduled to be debated later this week, that would withhold 50 percent of U.S. dues for the UN if the international agency fails to institute a series of reforms.

1. What's with the parasitic attachment?
Why do they allow these "attachments" that F-- UP the original bill? Like a vote against this bill is a vote against NASA and Baseball and apple pies. Sheesh!

2. So the rest of the world's nations can cut their contributions, too. Cool
So the next time the USA runs to the UN for help...well, we just won't be able to run to the UN for any help.

3. A series of reforms? Is there ANY other country with the US on this?
Another case of diplomatic incompetance caused by strong arm tactics or what the repukes like to call "Decisive Leadership".

5. The US should be expunged from membership if it refuses to
pay its dues. Then the Bolton debacle can just end.
