More Americans want troops pulled out of Iraq, poll finds

BY DAVID JACKSON

The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Still a military challenge, Iraq is also a growing political problem for President Bush.

New polls show rising sentiment for pulling American troops out of Iraq, on top of continuing majorities who say the invasion has not been worth the cost in dollars or lives.

"The steady drip of negative news from Iraq is significantly undermining support for the U.S. military operation there," said the Pew Research Center for the People & The Press in its analysis of a just-released poll.

As for its effect on Bush, Pew president Andrew Kohut said, "It's a war that has his name on it, and a greater percentage think we should bring our troops home."

....

Questions about the war's origins have been revived by the "Downing Street minutes," a newly disclosed British memo saying that, as early as 2002, the Bush administration "fixed" WMD intelligence around a pre-set decision to invade Iraq.
