Antenna Adjustment (Bill Clinton radio show on Clear Channel)
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 08:17 AM by paineinthearse
This may be in other media now, but this is the first reference I can find. It is from Business Week's 6/20 edition - http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_25/b3938093_mz016.htm

Antenna Adjustment

Clear Channel is pulling apart its empire as it scrambles to compete in a changed media world

<snip>

PROGRAMMING SHIFT
Beyond the dismantling, the $9.4 billion-a-year Clear Channel is draping itself in new media offerings. It's launching digital radio channels and podcasting and developing more exclusive content for radio station Web sites. The goal is to find ways to deliver what's essentially a live, local medium to a borderless, timeless cyberworld. Mark says he has had talks with Apple Computer (AAPL ) CEO Steven P. Jobs, Microsoft (MSFT ) CEO Steven A. Ballmer, and Yahoo (YHOO )! CEO Terry S. Semel about ways their companies might use Clear Channel content. Clear Channel is also hellbent on winning back some of the status it has lost to satellite newcomers XM and Sirius by signing big names to host their own shows, including Donald Trump and Jesse Jackson. And Harry Thomason, a Hollywood director and longtime friend of Bill Clinton's, confirmed to BusinessWeek that Clear Channel has had talks with the former President about his own show. "There's definitely a place for the former President on radio at some point," says Thomason.

4. Twenty million mindless freeptards ready their dialing fingers...
...while reflexively shouting "BLOW JOB!!!!!"

If he takes calls, I hope he has a huge delay and a screener made of stainless steel.

5. There aren't more than a dozen freeptards and the screeners

already recognize the voices of every one of them, even when they try to disguise them. Besides, the Big Dog is just as apt as Randi to let them on just to shoot them down, and he can do it more quickly, calmly, and with more panache.

Besides, I used to have some freeptard neighbors and one of them was almost deaf and used to holler a lot. One day at the height of Monicagate he was running up and down the beach screaming: "A BLOW JOB IS NOT AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE!" Even freeptards don't always agree with Rove.

Anyways most freeptard callers usually start by saying, "I've been a registered Democrat for 20 years, but...." I think they must have a xeroxed spiel that they have to adhere to--otherwise they'd have changed that line years ago.

6. Clinton is awesome.
Yeah, I know he sold out on some issues where he shouldn't have, like NAFTA and welfare reform, but they guy is brilliant and hugely charismatic.

And he used to drive an El Camino!

12. He's not a liberal
so he would be out of place on Air America.
I'd love to hear GW Bush on a radio call-in show. Now that would be some comedy entertainment!!

15. Many AAR Stations on Clear Channel Stations
and just to remind everyone, CC loves Bill Clinton, he signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996, giving us 1400 Clear Channel stations in just 4 short years.

14. He Already Did in 1996 - Signed Telecommunications Act
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 03:43 PM by otohara
THE DAY AFTER Clinton signed that law, the small radio company I was working for was bought out by Clear Channel.

For 3 1/2 years Clear Channel gobbled up most of the top stations in the top markets.

Literally, Clear Channel profited the most because of this disastrous law/ACT.
