PM could face Iraq prosecution

16jun05

PRIME Minister John Howard could face criminal prosecution overseas for Australia's role in the Iraq war, an international lawyer says.

Philippe Sands, QC, director of the Centre for International Courts and Tribunals at University College London, says Mr Howard along with British Prime Minister Tony Blair could face charges amid claims the Iraq war was illegal.
United States President George W Bush and US Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld could also find themselves in similar predicaments, Professor Sands says.

"Under international law an illegal war amounts to the crime of aggression and in some countries around the world a crime of aggression is one in which they exercise jurisdiction," Prof Sands told ABC TV.

13. June 23-27: WORLD TRIBUNAL ON IRAQ -- and I'm not talking about Saddam's!
Its all unraveling -- without most people even knowing that the verdict against Bush and Blair is coming at the end of this month! Especially people at DU, sheesh.

See my signature and go to www.worldtribunal.org and ENDORSE the tribunal!

THIS IS KEY!

5. It's about time some of these other nations
jumped on the bandwagon. This farce of a war has put a lot of nations' reputations on the line and I'm ssssoooo happy to see that someone is standing up to say "We're not gonna take it anymore!"

Just look at Saddam. He was on top of the world at one time. Visiting the USA and everything. Now he is in his underwear for all the world to see.

18. For life? Yes, a short one at the end of a rope.

I am usually against the death penalty, but in this case, considering just how heinous the crimes, including treason, and the number of dead and maimed that this bunch caused, I can make an exeption.

Consider the fact that there has never been as serious a conspiracy to take over the United State government, and us it to carry out a personal and corporate agenda. And I include Sept. 11. Whether you believe in LIHOP or MIHOP, they are responsible for it.

And I hereby volunteer to pull the lever to the trap door.

Any American who is not spitting mad at what they've done to the country and the world has to be more brain damaged that poor Terry Schiavo.

death lawsuits. These people (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld) will not have two nickels to rub together.

19. Nuremberg redux. Read the Nuremberg indictments. Sound familiar?
Count One: Conspiracy to Wage Aggressive War
This count helped address the crimes committed before the war began, showing a plan to commit crimes during the war.

Count Two: Waging Aggressive War, or "Crimes Against Peace"
Including “the planning, preparation, initiation, and waging of wars of aggression, which were also wars in violation of international treaties, agreements, and assurances.”

Count Three: War Crimes
These were the more “traditional” violations of the law of war including treatment of prisoners of war, slave labor, and use of outlawed weapons.

Count Four: Crimes Against Humanity
This count involved the actions in concentration camps and other death rampages.

The defendants at Nuremberg. Front row, from left to right: Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Wilhelm Frick, Julius Streicher, Walther Funk, Hjalmar Schacht. Back row from left to right: Karl Dönitz, Erich Raeder, Baldur von Schirach, Fritz Sauckel, Alfred Jodl, Franz von Papen, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Albert Speer, Konstantin van Neurath, Hans Fritzsche.
