(2200) PA Guard Members Headed To Iraq (biggest deploy since Korean War)
http://kyw.com/Local%20News/local_story_167134747.html

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Some 22-hundred Pennsylvania Army National Guard members—the state’s largest deployment since the Korean War— are being sent to Iraq.

The Pennsylvania guard will make up the bulk of the 35-hundred-member Second Brigade Combat Team, which includes personnel from 23 other states.

Members have been training since January at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and in Fort Irwin, California. A deployment ceremony is scheduled June 23rd in Mississippi.

The brigade includes two infantry battalions and one armored battalion. A guard spokesman, Captain Cory Angell, says it will be “pretty much self-sufficient,” with its own surgeon to provide immediate combat care and its own engineers to demolish obstacles or destroy captured ordnance.

2. Interesting that they note the surgeon
CBC radio this morning had an article about the US armed forces missing their enlistment quotas by thousands, especially medical personnel.

This guy's gonna get thrown to the wolves.

4. Syriasly, it's a-happenin'
The most resonant line of the immediate post-9-11 days was Rumsfeld's about using this to roll up all of our old unfinished business. The PNAC is DOMINATED by pro-Israel individuals, and this is one of their greatest bugaboos. With one of the world's greatest militaries sitting right there and ready to help, it's just too great a temptation.

Gotta kill someone, and our hands are somewhat tied.
