Sparse, downcast crowd at Davis campaign site; Davis secluded with family
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 12:21 AM by eileen_d
(concession speech coverage - hope this is ok LBN; if not, apologies)

In the same hotel where he celebrated his first election five years earlier, Gov. Gray Davis stood before a crowd of supporters late Tuesday and admitted defeat in only the second successful recall of a sitting governor.

"Tonight, the voters decided it's time for someone else to serve," Davis said, his words interrupted by supporters booing at his concession and chanting "We want Gray" in support.

...

"I have placed a call to Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger just a few minutes ago to congratulate him on being elected governor," he said.

1. Look for a run on action-hero candidates...
...as the GOPpies shine on to this new, fully-validated victory strategy.

Pioneered a few years ago in a double-blind research study in Minnesota (voters were unaware of any meaningful party affiliation on the part of the action-hero candidate,) the strategy has now been fully tested in the California prototye.

Look for Steven Seagal to be recruited for the next high-profile, highly-contested open Senate seat race. Mark Singer is a distinct possibility for a Congressional seat, and they'll probably save Bruce Willis for another major Goobership.

Disappointingly, Harrison Ford has already turned down an offer on the Pennsylvania Goobership.

We're hoping that some progressive GOPpie splinter group goes in for a little affirmative action and puts up Brigitte Nielson, too.

helpfully,
Bright

4. i'm too bourbon'ed to figure this out at the moment
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 12:51 AM by enki23
and i'm aware that i'm not the most stable of the stable of supporters and well-wishers, but i'm trying like hell to figure out (in my depressed, addled, and not-yet-but-future-californian state) how to privately send you the message that you are still my hero, even after all these (three or so, is it?) years.

the less than illustrious, and failed (so far) as a cult leader (in louisiana) the moderately, passably, liberal-yet-moderate-yet-extremist-as-fuck....

Thank heavens its bourbon, you can do yourself serious damage on tequila or vodka...

thanks for the kind words, young old (or is it old young?) friend.

appreciatively,
Bright

8. heya. you needn't feign appreciation
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 04:35 AM by enki23
when acknowledgement (from some) is better than a kick in the ass. hell, it's better than five hundred kicks in the ass, and i'm hardly exaggerating at all. hardly. ;-)

and yes, it's bourbon. i figure i like to keep my poisons many and uncertain. as a would-be toxicologist, you learn too much about the bad to want to know much more than is necessary about your own chosen medications. that, and anything having to do with worms and cacti seems gratuitous.

anyway, i've still plenty of appreciation for everything you've had to add, cork or no, though my glass is more than half empty by any measure. actually, it says "this glass is half empty" and has a line. my girlfriend bought it for me. fitting, i think. i've pretty good idea where i stand, parallax be damned.

or something...

oh yeah, and i hope arnold is recalled. i know it could possibly backfire, but at this point i thinkt he risk is worth it. the system is flawed, but it won't be changed until we can prove the flaw is bipartisan. maybe? maybe.

etc.

extra-appreciatively

2. On a more serious note...
When the recall effort coalesces, please someone in CA, publish the name and address where I can send my contribution to the effort!

compassionately,
Bright

3. I heard Willy Brown plans to start one ASAP
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 12:45 AM by twilight
He is the current major of San Francisco and I do believe he is mad as hell. :grr:

He plans to start the recall against Schwartzenazi like tomorrow best I know. That is IF this is even a valid election ...

Just like Florida all over again ...

Broken machines ...

Lines of people that never were able to vote ...

People that tried to vote went to the polls and they were closed ...

Many people that went to vote couldn't because their names weren't on the gold plated "roster" ...

On and on it goes ...

:dem:

6. Willy Brown would get crushed
I like Willie Brown, but he has made too many enemies in CA through the years.
