Georgia Gov. Fined by Ethics Commission

ATLANTA - The state ethics commission fined Gov. Sonny Perdue $1,900 for campaign violations and ordered him to repay more than $18,000 in contributions — most of it to his wife for using her company's airplane.

The ruling Friday — negotiated ahead of time and approved by Perdue's lawyers — was believed to mark the first time that a sitting Georgia governor has been fined since the commission was created in the 1970s.

Democrats, who filed the ethics complaint against the state's first Republican governor since Reconstruction, claimed vindication.

1. Sonny Perdue... chicken guy?
How nice that his wife has her own airplane. Her company has nothing to do with him, right?

8. No, although "Sonny Perdue" DOES sound like a guy who would...
own a barbeque stand.

3. Firsts for Georgia
The first Republican governor is the first to be fined governor since the commisson was created in the 1970s. Democrats, in charge for all those other years, managed to stay within the law. Does this surprise anyone? No.

Yep, the party of "moral values" strikes again.

7. I read this article on the front page of the Gainsville Times this AM.
There is a very humerous quote in the article though! After describing how happy they were to be able to make this charge stick, there was a quote by Sonny Perdue's lawyer Randy Evans.

He said: "This was a huge defeat for the Democrats. They started alleging hindreds and thousands of violations, suggesting that there would be hefty fines, tens of thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, only eight violations were found, half of them technical reporting violations."

MAN, i gotta give the Pubs credit for a superior ability to spin...EVEN A GUILTY VERDICT! When are the Dems going to learn how to do this????
