Latino rally planned to counter Minuteman
A largely Latino network is continuing efforts to counter the Minuteman Project and other civilian patrol groups that plan to monitor the California border for illegal crossings in August and September.
The National Alliance for Human Rights, coordinated by UCR professor Armando Navarro, is hosting a meeting today in Calexico to develop a plan of action against the Minuteman Project.
A press conference and "bi-national rally" will follow in both Calexico and in Mexicali, Mexico. "It is imperative that we as Mexicanos and Latinos develop a countervailing offensive predicated on having the capacity to create a critical mass," Navarro said in a written statement.
"Whereas in Arizona, the Minuteman Project did not produce a massive mobilization by Latinos, this will not be the case in California."
