Iraq Kurds warn of violence if Turkey sends troops

MOSUL, Iraq, Oct. 8 — Iraqi Kurds who had helped U.S. forces topple Saddam Hussein are threatening to turn their guns against their old enemy Turkey if Ankara sends troops to Iraq at Washington's request.

Turkey's efforts to suppress a Kurdish separatist movement within its own borders have inflamed the antagonism of Iraqi Kurds towards their neighbour.

''I don't want Turkish troops coming to Iraq,'' Kurdish taxi driver Saddam Younis, 27, said in Mosul. ''They will be attacked when they pass through the north.''

Facing daily guerrilla attacks and mounting financial costs, Washington is trying to get more countries to commit troops and funds to help stabilise Iraq. Turkey's parliament voted on Tuesday to send soldiers to join the occupation force in Iraq.

1. Instead of using UN peacekeepers - - Send a life long Enemy !
Ya right -

The USA really wants to "stabilize" Iraq

Methinks the BFEE just wants them to kill each other off

Just my humble Canadian Opinion

3. The UN is doing such a great job in the Congo, with the help of the EU.
Maybe they can duplicate that success in Iraq. /sarcasm/ When has the UN been able to handle any dicey situation? Wasn't Somalia. Without the US taking the reigns, the UN is a runaway chuckwagon.

6. Nor Rwanda
There's no reason to believe a UN force would be received any more warmly than the US occupiers.

We need to leave Iraq to the Iraqis. They;ll sort it out -- it may take a long, bloody civil war, but they'll sort it out.

7. What is the solution?
Although I never supported the war, I never dreamed that the Bush administration would be this stupid. So far the administration has done nothing but antagonize the Iraqi people by failing to keep order and by not providing basic services. Even the Kurds are upset with the United States. I really can not imagine how the UN can do any worse than the United States.

2. This misadministration is showing the world how desperate we are
or, that they have no f-ing clue what they are doing. What a GREAT way to endear the Iraqi people to the occupation.

4. Say, Dubya should look at the logical extension of this policy:
he should get Israel to agree to send troops.
