Israeli jets violate Lebanese airspace amid efforts to ease tension

Beirut, Oct 8 (dpa) Two Israeli jets today violated the Lebanese airspace over Beirut and broke the sound barrier, causing panic among residents, Lebanese police said.

Two loud supersonic booms were heard over the capital shortly before midday.

The sound caused panic among residents who rushed to their balconies to see if it was only a sonic boom or an Israeli strike against targets in the capital.

Meanwhile, Lebanese officials and the United Nations have undertaken efforts to ease tension on the Lebanese-Israeli border after an Israeli soldier and a Lebanese boy were killed on Monday and Tuesday in a rare exchange of cross-border fire.

The world complains about Israel while Syria has conquered an entire nation and runs it like a colony. Syria is a dictatorship that backs terror and has been fighting Israel for 55 years.

I feel for the innocents of Lebanon, but if they want their nation back, they need to take it.

attacked Syria without provocation this week, and occupied Lebanon for almost 20 years. For at least 35 years, Syria has been fighting Israel in an effort to try to get its land back, which is being settled by European and Russian immigrants.

That is why the world complains.

have the means to take their nation back? I think the Israeli government (aside from the voting part) is behaving curiously similar to a dictatorship with the "Administration Detention" of illegal combatants, forced armed service participation (although that is nothing new),and the bullydozing 2000 Palestinian homes in 2002.

So far that I can see Israel behaves until there's a suicide bomber. Where there are terrorists there are suicide bombers. Who are we to tell another country how they should protect themselves when we don't live with the everyday threat of someone wearing a bomb to lunch? And now women are doing it? And some news reports say that she got as close as possible to a baby stroller before blowing herself up? How sick is that? There was an outcry from the farthest left and farthest right to take out the perpetrators of 9-11. I think we may be being hypocritical about telling Israel that they can't do things inside their own country and expect them to do it. That's like telling Syria to get out of Lebanon. Like that's going to happen without more bloodshed.

Ya but that is what happens when huge amounts of resources are poured into military defense, and Super power Countries have become out of reach with being able to settle differences with nations that have not done so or have all ready been defeated. and the divirsity between the two sides is just too unequal leaving only acts like suicide bombings. Its a dirty game amd These acts will continue... They are only breeding more hate when retalitary actions are used.

Really do we let little league baseball players play with the Major league baseball players? No of course not so why should it be different amongst Nations trying to settle differences?

I'll agree that any soldier giving up his life for his country and beliefs is a hero, but that's not what the Palestinian murder-bombers typically do. A SOLDIER in a WAR attacks military targets. If these guys want my sympathy, they need to confine their attacks to valid, internationally recognized military targets.

Blowing up a school lunchroom, a bus packed with children, or a supermarket doesn't make you a hero, martyr, or freedom fighter, it makes you a murderer. I support Palestinian statehood, but I cannot support murderers and wish Israel the best of luck in eradicating them.

that an Israeli soldier was killed by Lebanese fire. Hizbullah controls the border area. A Lebanese child was also killed by Lebanese fire, this week.

If Israel is fired on that means Israel is asking for a war. Nice way of rejecting any criticism of Leabanon, Syria and Hizbullah.
