Bush wounded by anger over war
Tony Allen-Mills, Washington

June 19, 2005

INCREASING American concern about the conduct of the war in Iraq has forced President George W Bush to sideline some of his domestic priorities in favour of a new public relations drive to bolster confidence in the coalition effort.

Iraq will return to the top of the American political agenda this week when the president delivers the first of several speeches aimed at reversing a damaging slide in his approval ratings.

Ibrahim al-Jaafari, the Iraqi prime minister, will pay his first visit to the White House as part of a co-ordinated attempt to boost confidence in both Iraq and America.

The president’s move follows complaints in his own party that the public has been misled about the coalition’s difficulties in Iraq. Almost 100 Americans and several hundred Iraqis have died since the beginning of last month despite a claim by Dick Cheney, the vice-president, that the insurgency was in its “last throes”.

Poor, poor pitiful Bu$h. I can't wait until that headline reads, 'Bu$h forced to resign because of anger over war".

131. He'll give 3 speeches in 2 wks "to accentuate the postive" LOL
Each should be 1 minute in length then because little or nothing is positive there. Will the speeches be fact-checked by the Corporate Media?

Yeah, he going to prison at some point unless he pardons himself like his father had to do.

168. Read 1 w/be with the (clearing throat) Newly Elected Gov. of Iraq
To "boost" his great, and mighty war. Wondering what the 2nd one will be about!?! Hmmm... maybe more "lies." Notice they no longer show his back. They know we're on to those wires!

It promises to be interesting but I'm concerned. A report came out on MSNBC (tube) abt an hour ago. Very short 2 second mention about 1 of our airlines making an ER landing in (drumroll.....) Iran!

Then the CNN anchor-whore moved on to something else of great importance. I turned of the tube after that. They all make me sick since I clicked on that other post just below this one (under Greatest) with the link to him joking about WMD (none here... that one) and there was the media over their surf & turf laughing.

3. Since when does hearing from Bush stop his ratings slide?
They must really be desperate. When Bush opens his piehole, his ratings always take a dive! Why would they be having him speak? People aren't buying the lies anymore. If he thinks he can spout that usual sing-song drivel, he's quite mistaken.

Bush is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. The fix is in. He's done. Just a matter of time and continued hard work on his part.

21. We won't find this in a USA
paper..

"There have also been complaints in military circles that the president has recently been more concerned with his proposed reforms to the US pension system — which is supposedly in danger of collapsing by 2047 — than in publicly discussing the effort in Iraq.

“He’s out in the sticks talking about a social security problem that might occur in 2047, and meanwhile the boys in Iraq are getting killed and injured every day,” said one officer. “Don’t you find that a little odd?”

This should be broadcast from sea to shining sea!

105. Oh, it will be different but equally frightening next time
And it's likely to come this summer, unfortunately. My guess is that the sound machine will start hammering about Iran's nuclear capability (that part's already starting) and then Iran will nuke Iraq and we will land in Iran, with Iraq just a smoldering glass rock under which much oil remains. What is going to terrify me even more (yeah, I'm human. I don't want anyone to experience a nuclear bomb but I especially don't want it to happen to me and mine) is if they start implying that Iran is selling nuclear capability to North Korea because then they will be setting up for a nuclear explosion somewhere on the West coast of the US.

Anyway, the short version is that we are being set up for a nuclear explosion somewhere.

I heard that recruiting numbers for the US Military were down before they eliminated the report. Perhaps Jr. should direct those folks to chat with his daughters. He's directing them to chat with all the other kids that graduated from public high schools, why not lead them towards 2 choice picks. Or, maybe he's afraid of what might happen to HIS bundles of joy.

63. Google "dry drunk" and see what comes up first.
Many of us believe that Bush is a dry drunk. In other words, he is an alcoholic who gave up drinking but did not go through recovery. No matter what kind of an addict a person is, recovery is for the rest of his/her life. Bush is obviously following dysfunctional patterns of behavior (e.g., lying, manipulating, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result). He's also clearly very immature spiritually (look at his rigidity, which is manifested in various ways).

Someday the country will look back on this episode in disbelief -- that is, if this country survives it. Bush could easily cause the U.S. to lose its superpower status. In fact, I think he's almost assured it.

122. Idiot or Liar?
Idiot or Liar? Either Way, Bush is Unfit for Office

by John V. Whitbeck

JEDDAH, 19 August 2003 — On July 25, President George W. Bush made a truly staggering statement to the press after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan: “The fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons program? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations, so as to make sure he was not a threat to the United States and our friends and allies in the region.”
<snip>

Explanation 1: The president of the United States believed what he said. In this case, he is so dim-witted and/or totally divorced from reality as to be mentally unfit to hold his current job — or, indeed, any job — and should be taken into medical care.

Explanation 2: The president did not believe what he said but, rather, believes (unfortunately not without compelling post-Sept.11 evidence) that the vast majority of the American people are so dim-witted and/or uninformed and the vast majority of the American media is so sycophantic and/or terrified of being branded “unpatriotic” (or simply losing White House “access”) that he can now tell any lie, no matter how obvious and outrageous, and get away with it. In this case, he is morally unfit to hold his current job and should, by constitutional means, be forced to relinquish it as soon as possible.
<snip>

When a single individual combines ignorance, immorality, dry-drunk syndrome, a publicly proclaimed commitment to perpetual military domination of the entire world by his country, a publicly expressed belief that God personally instructs him to make war on specific countries and a wildly irrational born-again brand of Christianity that views the Battle of Armageddon and the consequent end of life on earth as desirable developments and, at the same time, has command authority over an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction more than sufficient to achieve the end of life on earth, it is difficult to argue that this individual is not the most dangerous person who has ever lived.

When (if ever) will the American people wake up to the real threat facing America and the world?

157. Many of us believe he isn't even dry
In Dec 2000, when he made his "acceptance speech," my first thought on hearing him speak was "Oh my G-d, he's DRUNK!"

I seriously think he's either seriously binge drinking, or taking some sort of mind-altering medication regularly.

107. Yes
Bush never got treatment for his addictions (finding God is only one part of treatment, not the be all and end all) so he has continued the patterns. Until this last election, I was calling him a dry drunk, which is an AA term for an unrecovered alcoholic who doesn't actually imbibe but still has all of the symptoms of soul sickness.

I've stopped calling him a dry drunk because I saw too many signs that he's wet again.

Either way, an unrecovered alcoholic has his finger on the red button. If you really think about it, it is really, really scary.

Poll: Iraq Taking Toll On Bush

NEW YORK, May 24, 2004

CBS) Growing public concern about the war in Iraq, the coming handover of power to Iraqis on June 30, and the prisoner abuse scandals there, have taken their toll on evaluations of President George W. Bush. And the last few weeks have provided no good news on the domestic front: Americans have lackluster expectations for the economy, and the new worry of rising gas prices. The President’s approval rating has dropped to a new low of 41 percent, and more than six in ten say the country is heading in the wrong direction.

There is another good reason for the President’s series of speeches on plans for Iraq, the first of which takes place tonight.

This time, he'll look desperate and fake. Everyone knows this staged potpourri of lies and soundbytes is a reaction to his falling polls.

He'll look ridiculous.

People are angry. Our soldiers are dying. We spend a billion dollars a day in Iraq. We're done.

Another canned speech from the liar in chief will only insult America.

We've heard it all before. Yeah, yeah....we're "turning a corner." Or, how about when Bremer left and turned over the keys to Alawi...we were told everything was going to improve. How about the elections...we were told this would cure everything! None of it meant anything.

Finally, America does not not support the war, and they don't believe Junior's bullpuckey.

This speech will make people realize that they've been hoodwinked.

Not any more, Junior. Your failed, ill-planned war that was based on a foundation of lies--is a train wreck--and America isn't buying the snake oil anymore.

But you go ahead and make your speech. I'll thoroughly watch your ratings tank even further.

99. This Government has ceased functioning.
The climate is the same as the second term of the Nixon and Clinton administrations. The Republican Congressional majority is almost irrelevant. The initiative no longer resides in the GOP. Events are unfolding faster than they can deal with them. Rove's "genius" is irrelevant.

Who are the gatekeepers of events? I believe it started with the attack on Newsweek and the press' realization that it had to fight or die. And as an aside I note that Sharon is not all that happy with the pressure being applied by George to move the roadmap forward (spying trials etc.). Funny how this works. And then there are the enemies Bush has made over the 5 years, the many many many enemies.

104. There is a battle raging in Washington, at this very moment.
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 12:32 AM by cliss
Visualize somewhere in Washington, back-to-back meetings to try to fix the situation.

There is an odd assortment of generals, analysts, PR people, of course Karl Rove, RumsFailed and other policy makers. The topic is Iraq. There are heated discussions on how to proceed.

"What can we do?" asks one general. "We have to secure the country. That was our driving force, all along. We NEEDED Iraq, no question about it". Heads are nodding. Yes, no questions. We need Iraq, badly. No fighting on that point.

"But they can't stand seeing us there", pipes in one analyst. It's like waving a red flag at a bull. We can't continue the occupation much longer. The American public is getting tired of this. Soon, they will start rioting in the streets, and start impeachment proceedings.

The analyst looks over at Cheney, who's sitting quietly, with his fingertips over his mouth. Even Cheney know this can't continue much longer.

About 1 year ago, they understood having US soldiers in Iraq was too galling to the locals. Things were spiraling out of control in Fallouja and other cities. They reached a compromise to start training Iraqis to govern themselves, of course with the US as the ruler.

The US has been desperately trying to turn over the reins of control to Iraqi troops. But it's slow going, and US deaths are shooting through the roofs. The biggest risk is that the new troops will turn on their masters, or plot against them with insider information.

The generals figure they can do it, but they'll need another 5 years. 5 years? No way, the Americans will never go for it.

As fists slam on the table and cursing fills the air, the assembled try to figure out what to do......

.....as their treasure recedes out of their grasp......

"Plan B" was a last-ditch effort.

112. What I would like is
(A) Confiscation of all of the Bush family assets - foreign and domestic - as the start of a restitution to the families of both Iraq and Coalition soldiers that have died in this war.

(B) Immediation extradiction of Bush and his administration to Iraq to stand (public tv) trial in a military tribunal conducted by the Iraq military, enjoying the same rights/protections enjoyed by the prisoners in our prison in Cuba.

(C). Bush and his administration could not seek protection under the Geneva Convention.

(D). For all members of the Bush administration found guilty, all of their assets and family assets would be forfeit - under the same terms as the Bush family assets.

(E). Denial of all pensions, benefits, entitlements from the US government or any corporate or business interest with ties to the American government - either directly or indiectly.

(F). Finally, those that were not executed, let them find Jesus, being poor - they would need him.

but all he has to do is bring some troops home to much fanfare and proclaim that we are exiting. The yellow magnets and flag sales will skyrocket helping the economy and his ratings will go up.

Of course for him to do that and continue fighting and occupying Iraq, many more reporters will need to die and many more bribed to keep up the facade. This gang is known for these methods already, so I guess there isn't that much new. They never say they are sorry or they made a mistake.

If we had real journalists in this country someone might point it out today on the Sunday shows.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/usiraqbushattacks

~snip~

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush defended the war in Iraq, telling Americans the United States was forced into war because of the September 11 terror strikes.

Bush also resisted calls for him to set a timetable for the return of thousands of US troops deployed in Iraq, saying Iraqis must be able to defend their own country before US soldiers can be pulled out.

"We went to war because we were attacked, and we are at war today because there are still people out there who want to harm our country and hurt our citizens," Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

121. It seems the Iraqis were doing a pretty good job
of maintaining order and defending their own country until we took over. Of course, they couldn't defend themselves from a super power like the US, but they did fight for almost a decade against the Iranians and they managed to maintain law and order within their own country during that time.

Get out now and let the Iraqis have their country back. They been around for 1000's of years before we got there, I'm sure if we left them alone they'll figure out how to stick around for another 1000.

126. Your sons and daughters are dying over a lie (Arizona republic)
Press ignoring Downing Street memo
http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/opinions/articles/0619sunlets195.html

Jun. 19, 2005 12:00 AM

This is a request to The Arizona Republic and the mainstream media to report
on the Downing Street memo, the leaked classified document that seems to
have been virtually ignored by the press.

It proves that in July 2002, President Bush lied about reasons for going to war
and planned the attack of Iraq months before meeting with the United Nations
about a possible invasion.

A quote from the memo: "Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military
action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence
and facts were being fixed around the policy."

It proves that the war with Iraq is a tool to help create the "Project for the
New American Century" and to gain a stronger hold on Middle East oil.

Your sons and daughters are dying over a lie, America; it's time to wake up. - Ed Younkin,
Sun City West

Americans see five lights because they are told there are five lights. They are not like Picard in STNG in this regard, but rather like Winston in Orwell's 1984 (from which that Star Trek plot line in Chain of Command is derived from), who at the end of his torture does indeed see five fingers and not the four that are actually there.
