Lobbying Intensifies as Senate Gets Close to a Vote on Climate Change

WASHINGTON (ap) - Industry groups and environmentalists lobbied hard to sway lawmakers' votes Monday as the Senate prepared for a major challenge to President Bush's global warming policy.
The Senate was set to consider two proposals as part of a broad energy bill this week that would, for the first time, call for mandatory limits on industry's release of heat-trapping gases that many climate scientists believe are warming the earth.

The Bush administration has argued strongly against mandatory climate-related emissions caps, contending that its voluntary program is reeling in the growth of so-called "greenhouse" emissions, if not actually reducing the tons annually being released into the atmosphere.

Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., met with other Republican senators Monday to gauge support for a compromise provision, offered by Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M. The compromise would require the growth of heat-trapping pollution be reduced by 2.4 percent annually between 2010 and 2020, with emissions beginning to decline after that.

1. It's no longer "many" and "believe"
It's pretty much all of them, and the data is now clear. If the environmental lobbyists can do just one thing, I hope they can move us past this "many" and "believe" b.s.

2. With the Bushistas track record for falsifying scientific reports...
The Bush administration has argued strongly* against mandatory climate-related emissions caps, contending that its voluntary program is reeling in the growth of so-called "greenhouse" emissions, if not actually reducing the tons annually being released into the atmosphere.

...who really believes this bullshit?

________
And what exactly does "has argued strongly" mean?

7. Seems silly for the Senate to vote, but I say vote NO CLIMATE
CHANGE!

I don't want a climate change, for any reason. But if we could do something about the pesky law of gravity, I'd be for that!

Sorry, just feeling silly tonight....

8. It's the penguins
If they just didn't breath so hard, the Antarctic ice wouldn't be melting. Darn birds.
