BBC: Iraq rebuilding fails to deliver
On the outskirts of Baghdad, workmen have been toiling frantically to repair a huge broken water main.

It was blown up by insurgents at the weekend. They knew exactly where to place the charge for maximum damage. It has taken out the water supply for more than half of Baghdad.

"We've been affected badly," complained one man in the area. "We don't have any water to drink. What are we supposed to do? Sometimes they cut the power as well. It's all the fault of the Americans."

It is typical of the frustration faced by the Americans and their allies, as they struggle to improve the quality of life in Iraq.

1. Whadya mean fails to deliver?

It's delivering fine just the way it was intended for Halliburton and KBR.

2. A failure of heroic and worldwide proportions
Perhaps of all time. An embarrassment for the ages. Brought to us courtesy of chimp and the republicans.

3. Maybe if we got he hell out...they'd stop cutting off the elec. & water.
But,unfortunately, as soon as we leave...the slaughter will begin. So it looks like we will be sending troops to Iraq for the next 100+ years.
Ahhh, freedom on the march...that is till the oil begins running out...then we will forget all about freedom. Then when the oil runs out...so will we... and to hell with freedom!

4. Someone should do a return on investment for all the money we spent
in Iraq so far.

5. It depends on who is doing the calculation
If its Halliburton, things are looking good. Same with other corporate tentacles of the BFEE. If you're just an American taxpayer, the return doesn't look so good. In fact, it would almost certainly be very negative. But I wish some enterprising forensic accountant out there would give it a try, as well.
