OKINAWA CITY, Okinawa — A sailor and a Marine, both assigned to Camp Kinser, were in Okinawa police custody Monday for allegedly obstructing business at a clothing store near Kadena Air Base, officials said.
A spokesman for the Okinawa Prefectural Police said the 22- and 20-year-old suspects were among five non-Japanese men who were trying to flirt with a female employee at the store at about 4:50 p.m. Sunday. When the 61-year-old store owner and his son saw that the men were not there to shop, they asked them to leave, the spokesman said.
The five began shouting curses at the owner and son, then pulled displayed clothing off the wall and threw the merchandise on the floor, he said.
The owner reported the incident to police, who apprehended the two men on the street about 300 feet from the store, located on Gate 2 Street near Kadena, the spokesman said.
