POLL: 49% Say Bush Responsible for Provoking Iraq War, 44% Say Hussein
49% Say Bush Responsible for Provoking Iraq War

44% Say Hussein

June 23, 2005--Forty-nine percent (49%) of Americans say that President Bush is more responsible for starting the War with Iraq than Saddam Hussein. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 44% take the opposite view and believe Hussein shoulders most of the responsibility.

In late 2002, months before the fighting began, most Americans thought that Hussein was the one provoking the War. Just one-in-four thought the President was doing the provoking at that time.

The biggest change in perceptions has come among Democrats.

(Rasmussen is a Republican pollster)

... a plurality says Bush provoked a war that a big majority says was a mistake and not worth it.

We are going to witness the biggest and fastest political implosion since Nixon. Only Bush is too stupid to resign.

17. look at the sample of the survey for a hint.
The telephone survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports June 20-21, 2005. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
37% of survey respondents were Republican,
37% Democrat, and
26% unaffiliated (see Methodology)

Do you see anything wrong with this methodology?

They're significantly oversampling R's... slightly oversampling D's and underrepresenting I's -- IIRC, R's generally make up around 25-28%, D's = 33-35% and I's about the same.

Google isn't currently being my friend, so anybody with more accurate numbers can jump in here.

I think the 22 percent you're wondering about are the Lieberman types. My brother is hard core in favor of the Iraq war and claims to be a "Lieberman" Democrat, but even he has started to question the war. In fact, he doesn't want to talk about it whereas last year he screamed "We're gonna find those weapons of mass destruction!" LOLOLOL!

I'm not as optimistic as most of you when you say you are starting to gain respect for the American public again. I don't give the majority of them that much credit. Why did it have to get this bad before they woke up? And how quickly would they jump on the Bush bandwagon again if another attack occurred? Would they ask the hard questions and delve deeply into why or just listen to the MSM and drink the Kool Aid?
