Three protesters accused of assaulting Houston police officers at a demonstration outside a Halliburton meeting in May have been cleared of criminal charges.
A Harris County grand jury concluded that there was insufficient reason to believe the three young men had committed a crime. They had been charged with assault on a public servant, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. <snip>
Also among those arrested were eight members of the group Houston Global Awareness Collective, who dressed in business attire and formed a human chain blocking entry to the meeting. Most of them pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespassing and were sentenced to time served.
About 250 people turned out for the demonstration voicing opposition to Halliburton, its role in the Iraq war and allegations that it overcharged the federal government for services. <snip>
