TEHRAN (Reuters) - Aides of former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and hardline opponent Mahmoud Ahmadinehad issued conflicting claims of victory in Iran's presidential run-off election on Friday even before polling ended.

Ahmadinejad, 48, who has joined workers sweeping the streets of Tehran, says restoring ties with Washington is unimportant.
"I am proud of being the Iranian nation's little servant and street sweeper," Ahmadinejad said when he cast his ballot. "Today is the beginning of a new political era."
About 150 Basijis gathered where he voted, chanting: "Ahmadinejad we love you". Some shouted: "Death to America".
U.S. President George W. Bush's administration accuses Iran of backing terrorism and having a nuclear weapons programme. Tehran denies the charges and says its nuclear programme is solely for power generation.
