Debate format to be different - (Dems debate in Phoenix tonight)
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 11:26 AM by MoonAndSun
<http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1009debate-format09.html>

<snip> "A change in format is expected to make for a livelier debate tonight among the nine Democratic presidential candidates.

A portion of the 90-minute event will feature 40 undecided Arizona Democratic voters sitting in the front rows, asking unscripted questions of the candidates."

<snip> "We are going to see a debate unlike any we've had for presidential candidates," CNN senior executive producer David Bohrman said. "There are very few rules. The public wants to see if there is some presidential timber on this stage."

As an aside for Deanies and all others who are interested: Howard Dean is scheduled to be on the campus of Ariz St Univ (ASU) to speak to the students there at around 11:30 AM TODAY. (from a flyer my daughter brought home from ASU)

6. I just checked CSPAN's schedule and I do not see the debate
there. But they always run the re-runs of the debates so keep checking their schedules.

7. Not only is it running up against Game 2 of the ALCS...
... but it's also running opposite "Friends" and "Survivor."

Way to go, programming wizards!!

Thankfully, CNN is repeating the broadcast at 11:30 pm (ET) tonight.

12. CNN's new poll shows Clark with 21%, Deam with 16%...
I have a feeling the candidates will be gunning for Clark tonight. Here are the results of the latest CNN Poll, as just reported by Candy Crowley.

I'm copying this from my TV Screen (Tivo paused):

CNN-USA Today-Gallup Poll October 6-8

Sampling Error: +/- 5% PTS

Clark 21%
Dean 16%
Kerry 13%
Lieberman 13%
Gephardt 8%
Sharpton 6%
Braun 4%
Edwards 2%
Kucinch 2%

13. That's a relatively large Margin of Error -- 5 points
Most of these polls only have a 3 point MOE. And since Clark and Dean are 5 points apart...

18. This is still primarily name recognition
I'm sure there are some actual partisan preferences in there, but by and large any national polls at this point reflect name recognition, not actual candidate choice.

17. Honestly, I just don't understand how Edwards polls so low.
Why isn't he reaching anyone? In my opinion, he's the best natural speaker on the stump, and he fires up the crowds... only lately, there hasn't been much in the way of crowds.

What's John doing wrong? I'm just shocked that he's in the basement in the national poll (although I believe he's still in the running in a South Carolina only poll)...

20. I am a Dean supporter who also likes Edwards as well as Clark
In fact Edwards was my first choice. I changed when I was pissed as the Dems for voting for the war (which Edwards did), but other than that I agree w/ you...he is VERY telegenic and surprised he hasn't done better. Personally, I think he's whole "problem" is that he looks too young. Not saying that it right...but that's how I see it.

14. Sound like a set-up
Perhaps a Larouche supporter will find their way coincidentally to the front.

Puh-leeze! This "new format" seems tailor-made for the Busheviks to get their designated Lie of the Evening, shrieked across Amerika.

You'll see.

15. Notice how the article about the debate begins on the CNN site
"The bickering Democratic Presidential canidates face off...."

And written by the Associated Press, nonetheless. SO much for the liberal media.

21. kerry busts rush
Kerry told one lady there are two ways to get a discount on prescription drugs: Contact Rush Limbaugh's maid, or elect him (Kerry) the next POTUS.

Hee hee!

23. My letter to CNN:
You managed to sink lower than Faux - and that's no mean feat.
Faux had the hecklers planted in the audience - yours were on the moderators' podium.
Judy Woodruff reminded me of a school teacher I had in the 5th grade who hated me and never
let me finish a sentence.
Jeff Greenfield's questions were like Rush Limbaugh rants - long , vicious and unsourced.
Judy Woodruff insistence that Bush not be criticized revealed your bias. Shame on you!

24. excuse me ...
but it's widely known that Judy Woodruff hates George W. Bush. Especially after he publicly, verbally assaulted her and her husband, Al Hunt, with profanity in a restaurant several years ago.

Specifically, a drunken Dubya accosted Al and Judy in a Mexican restaurant in Dallas in 1988, and started screaming, "You fucking son of a bitch. I saw what you wrote. We're not going to forget this."
