Socialists ahead in Bulgaria vote ( BBC)
Socialists ahead in Bulgaria vote

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4621529.stm

The Socialists promised to improve social welfare
Bulgaria's opposition Socialist Party is poised to claim the largest number of seats in the country's parliament, but fall short of a majority.
Early results put the outgoing Liberal government of former King Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha in second place.

The Socialist leader said he aimed to form a government, but the Liberals still hope to form an anti-Socialist coalition with other parties.

Any new government faces negotiations over hopes for EU membership in 2007.

With some 10% of the vote counted, the Socialists polled 31% of the vote, with the Liberals trailing on 25%.

9. not Ukraine: Yushchenko got visits from Kissinger, Brzezinski, and Colon
Bowel. Interestingly, Bulgaria's PM is the former king during WWII's close (though he was about 4 at the time)

6. Bushistas are gonna order up more truckloads of Maalox
and keep your eye on these two socialists. Both are front runners.

Mexico City’s Mayor Andrés Manuel López Obrador who's gonna run for President of Mexico

as well as

Michelle Bachelet, who opinion polls suggest will become Chile's first female president in December.

8. Muy Bueno Amigo!
The only good thing coming out of the Iraq war is the fact that the US government hands are tied. While the cats away the mice will play and the mice are having a field day! Too bad the Iraqis are having to bear the brunt of imperialist destruction.

7. They have a rightwing party called the Attack Party in Bulgaria!
"A new radical nationalist party, Attack, was in third place on 9%, results showed, and may have up to 20 deputies in parliament."

More:
The polls also give at least four percent to a new far-right party, Attack, which has sought to exploit hostility towards the gypsy (Roma) minority with the campaign slogan "Bulgaria for the Bulgarians".

Bulgaria's 750,000 Roma mostly live in dire poverty and are shunned by the rest of the population, who believe they contribute to the country's high crime rate.

Ethnic tension has boiled over in the run-up to the vote and in some areas of Sofia residents have threatened to boycott the vote unless the Roma are evicted from their neighbourhoods.

Stanishev said Attack was tapping into race and class tension that has its roots in widespread poverty successive post-communist governments have failed to alleviate.

"It is a protest vote against the elite. Too many people feel that they have been excluded from society and Attack is exploiting their anger."
