DNA Analysis Will Be Used To Find Origin Of Mad Cow (mess of ID mistakes)
WP/AP:
DNA Analysis Will Be Used To Find Origin Of Diseased Cow
Associated Press
Sunday, June 26, 2005; Page A06

The government hopes DNA analysis can pinpoint the herd of the cow that tested positive for mad cow disease and lead investigators to the source of the animal's brain-wasting illness, the Agriculture Department's chief veterinarian said yesterday.

Genetic testing is needed because of mistakes in how the beef cow was labeled and how its tissues were stored, veterinarian John Clifford said.

The cow, a "downer" that could not walk, was delivered in November to a plant where animals unfit for human consumption are killed. The department has not identified the owner or the plant.

The cow's breed was mislabeled, possibly because the animal had been soiled heavily with manure and because its tissues were mixed with tissues from other cows, Clifford said.

"When we went back to this particular owner, the breed we identified, he indicated he did not sell that breed. He sold another breed," Clifford said. "In addition to that, we found that after the tissues were processed, there was some mixing."...

1. Oh whatever. I don't believe for one second that the government intends
to ever tell the truth on this issue. The damn thing was a 'downer' animal. They knew it was sick. There was no mistaken identity, no mixup of breeds because it was covered in manure, nothing. It's just another frigging scam to pass off infected beef on the American public and protect the cattle industry and the meat packing industry.

Why do I say this? Because if they were serious about the public's health, they'd would have already tracked down where this thing had come from already. They would have some answers. They wouldn't have drug their feet on this and then when they got caught at hiding another scandal in the food industry, they wouldn't be scrambling for answers now.

9. They know where it came from
Texas. Smirking Sociopath was even joking with Martin when he came to Washington, saying, we're gonna get that border opened, hell, we got one of them mad cows down near my place. USDA is under intense pressure not to name a state, because it will play hell with that state's herd.

Another Texas cow was displaying all the classic signs of mad cow (stumbling, charging at random, then finally falling down) and they just incinerated it. They said it was a mixup, but that's total bullshit.

And keep in mind, if a farmer thinks he has a mad cow, he can just shoot it and bury it so that they rest of his herd won't get killed for testing.

2. The population of the USA is nothing more than Guinea pigs
to this batch of criminals. I can not believe the horrors they continue to get away with all in the name of Corporate Greed.

5. There's a simple answer to mad cow disease.

Don't eat beef. It clogs your arteries and gives you heart attacks.

6. These mistakes are happening because
the USDA beef industry wants then to happen.

The beef industry is happy to kill us in the name of continued profits. The USDA is happy to oblige them.

12. Oh, gimme a break
They're going to destroy their own livelihood and industry? That's silly. The issue is, the cattlemen are Bushies who are now being screwed by the Bushies playing politics with science, just like they do everywhere else. They panicked when the first cow was found in Canada, because they knew American and Canadian cows were eating the exact same feed from the exact same plant, and therefore knew without a doubt that BSE would be found here. Which it was. And they knew the Japanese would shut US down, because we refused to follow internationally accepted science because it might cost the large packers, like Tyson and Cargill, too much, since they basically pack cheap crap that becomes hamburger.

And the more they twisted science, the deeper they got until it blew up in their face.

8. MEATLESS IN NJ
Well, call me a "conspiracy theorist," but we have stopped eating beef in my house.

If our obscenely crooked government is gonna cook the books on matters of detriment to OUR HEALTH (9/11 Air, Global Warming, mercury, TERRORISM, WAR, etc. etc. ETC.), why on earth would I trust they are telling me the whole story this time?

We've switched to bison & ostrich for our "red-meat" fix. Sure, more expensive than good old USA-grown beef, but we feel happier knowing that what we are consuming isn't going to have us twitching on the floor.

The cost? twice as much....The peace of Mind? priceless.

11. Downed cows have been ground up for 2 decades
A USDA whistleblower tried going before the public, even suceeded in getting on prime tv a few times, but the american public did not respond. Whose fault is that?

He testified that 4 meat packing plants he had overseen in PA...were using downed cows. /these particular plants produced ground beef for school lunch programs across the country. This was in 1998.

What they have to do is make a law stating no animal produts should be given to herd animals.

Anyway, our family has a rule. Eat beef at home, only. Organic.
