Same-sex bill at 'last stage,' Cotler says (Canada)
Last Updated Sun, 26 Jun 2005 14:18:50 EDT
CBC News

The Liberal government's divisive bill legalizing same-sex marriage could come to a vote this week, Justice Minister Irwin Cotler says.

"We're now at the last stage of this democratic exercise," Cotler told CBC Newsworld on Sunday, and "it may well resolve itself this week."

But the government is willing to have Parliament sit longer to consider the bill, he said.

Finally! Hopefully this will pass before the Canada Day long weekend, so we will have something more to celebrate!

2. It will be very interesting to see what comes of all of this...
When married Canadian couples wind up with issues while visiting the States, will we respect their union and Canada's laws?

Native of MA, and quite happy about it.

3. Oh Good to See...
I would love to see Harper doing the 'weiny' circuit this summer being attacked by his 'party faithful'... between them and the 'real' conservatives, it should keep Harper and his pals too bizy fighting off a mutiny to do anything coherent.

Good step...

5. "Divisive?"
I was under the impression most Canadians favored this, if only by slim margins?

6. I think they mean in Parliament
Some Liberals are voting against, some Conservatives are voting for. A few of the Liberal MPs quit the caucus and are now serving as Independents.
