Saudi held for attempting to kill Bush
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- Amnesty International said U.S. authorities arrested a Saudi on charges of attempting to assassinate President George W. Bush.

The Saudi daily al-Watan Monday quoted Sharon Craytobel, Amnesty International researcher in North America, as saying the human rights watchdog is concerned about the fate of the Saudi man, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

She said the suspect, who was not identified, will be tried soon in the U.S. on charges of trying to kill Bush.

"Amnesty International is deeply concerned about the imprisonment conditions and the trial of the suspect," she said.

6. Since when is "making statements" regarded as ...
... "attempting to assassinate"? Are there some magic words which, if uttered at the right time and place, would cause the death of Chimperor Codpiece? Well, I can imagine many hundreds of millions of people worldwide chanting in unison, then. :eyes:

American charged in alleged plot to assassinate President Bush
Wednesday, February 23, 2005

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (CNN) -- An American citizen who had been detained in Saudi Arabia was charged Tuesday in U.S. District Court with conspiracy and supporting terrorists in an alleged plot to assassinate President Bush.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali appeared in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, and was charged with providing material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization -- al Qaeda.

According to the six-count indictment, Abu Ali "did knowingly and unlawfully conspire to knowingly provide material support and resources ... knowing and intending that they were to be used in preparation for, and for carrying out, the assassination of the president of the United States."

10. Here's another article, June 24 2005, on the same guy:
Lawyer in Assassination Plot in Catch 22

By MATTHEW BARAKAT
The Associated Press
Friday, June 24, 2005; 2:46 PM

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Prosecutors in the case against an alleged al-Qaida member charged with plotting to assassinate President Bush have evidence that could help the defendant, and they want to hand it over. But they can't.

That's because his lawyer still lacks the necessary security clearances, four months after the charges were brought.

Ashraf Nubani, lawyer for Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, said he suspects the clearance will never come, handicapping his efforts to defend his client.

"It gives me the impression they're not going to clear me," Nubani said of the delay. "And I don't know of any good reason for it other than that the fact that I'm a Muslim and an Arab."

11. Yep -It's Ahmed Omar Abu Ali. This case has been suspicious from the start
The Strange Case of Ahmed Omar Abu Ali:
Troubling Questions about the Government's Motives and Tactics
By ELAINE CASSEL
----
Monday, Mar. 07, 2005

Twenty-three-year-old, Houston-born American citizen Ahmed Omar Abu Ali has been returned to Virginia after twenty months in solitary confinement in a Saudi Arabian prison. But he returned only to face arraignment, on February 22, in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia.

The charge is that he conspired to commit terrorism- and, indeed, the FBI says that he admitted as much in the course of interrogations in Saudi prison. He is alleged to have plotted to assassinate President Bush - but is not charged with that conspiracy.

The case is far from as open-and-shut as the FBI might suggest. Indeed, a number of aspects of the prosecution are deeply troubling.

12. Well, as the fascist pukes
that are our government say, "Watch what you say...".

Maybe this is a trial balloon to see if anyone cares that they're imprisoning American citizens for what they TALK ABOUT. (Jose Padilla is old news. )

If no one squeaks, I guess they can start roundin' us up n' herdin' us out.

I hate these bastards!

19. The one they would really want to get is George H.W. Bush.
He's the one who pulls all the strings. No way in hell would al Qaeda launch an expensive, risky operation and target this loser. bush could go to Mars tomorrow and stay there forever, and no one would notice his absence, except that the average IQ of the administration would rise 10 points.
