Bush open to permanent German UN Security Council seat
06.27.2005, 02:07 PM

WASHINGTON (AFX) - US President George W Bush left open the possibility that Germany could get a permanent UN Security Council seat, saying 'we oppose no country' in their efforts to join that body.

'We oppose no country's bid for the Security Council,' Bush said as he met at the White House with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who has pushed for his country to join the exclusive group of veto-holding permanent members.

'I was very pleased, indeed, to hear that there was no opposition, vis-a-vis Germany as such, from the president,' Schroeder said through an interpreter.

The US has laid out a proposal to add countries to the Security Council as part of a UN reform package, but has only endorsed Japan's push to join the US, Russia, China, France and Britain as a permanent member.

1. Any reform to the security council
Should also delete the veto powers of any nation. Majority votes rule - period.

3. Could Be
But if it's the usual Bush deal, once Germany does what he wants, he'll change his mind, just like he did with Powell and the $15 billion dollars for aid to Africa.

As soon as Powell lied through his teeth, there was no longer any obligation on Bush's part to follow through.

5. Another Flip Flop
This is just another flip flop for the president. I am starting to get used to it not even a month ago they had told Germany no to the same request. I have done two articles on this:
