Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison Announces Bid for Third Term After Weighing Campaign for Governor

(no big surprise)

DALLAS (AP) - Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison officially announced Monday that she will seek a third term, saying she could have beaten Gov. Rick Perry next year but decided she could serve Texas better by staying in the Senate.
The 61-year-old GOP senator denied getting any pressure from Republican officials to avoid a primary race against the governor.

"I disagreed with those who say that somehow a primary contest would be bad for the Republican Party," Hutchison said. "I am convinced that parties in power should never fear serious primary contests."

Hutchison said she wanted to stay in Washington to work on federal issues such as homeland security and tax relief. She is in line to rise to the No. 3 position in the GOP Senate leadership after the 2006 elections.

4. Let me translate what she just said.
I can make EVEN more money by being a greedy whore in the Senate than I could in Governor. Plus, fuck the people of Texas. I'll just serve my own goddamned interest and the corporations as well as long as they shove money in my pockets.

I wanna avoid the primary because although I know I'll beat the Hair in the primaries, but I'll get whooped because I don't represent the people of Texas.

Plus, when the Senate is handed back to the Dems, she'll regret her mistake and see her ranking to somewhere between 98 and 99, where she's right next to Frist the Toad.

8. Is her ranking that bad? At one time she was almost a moderate.
I just assume I'll never agree with my senators and that they won't listen to me, anyway, so I don't keep up with them much anymore.

9. Kay is worthless at best
and just another Repug ideologue. I honestly wonder if she believes half the things she says. However she does defend Amtrack, sort of.

18. She's a success at being The Less Insane Texas Senator.
Started when her colleague was the heinous Phil Gram & continued with John Cornyn.

She's probably staying out of the Governor's race becaues party leadership pleaded & groveled. The primary could have damaged Texas Republicans! Oh, well, Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn Cougar Mellencamp will give Governor Goodhair some trouble, at least.

7. I wonder that, too
Perry was pretty loyal to Bush, but Bush is not known for loyalty to the hired help.

11. Not just on the repuke side either
The primary fight will be nasty, you can bet on that. Carole Keeton Strayhorn, the current Comptroller is already calling Ricky boy a "drugstore cowboy", and calling herself "one tough grandma". Incompetent Perry is sticking his big ass foot, in his big ass mouth - "Adios, MoFo". Shoot out at the TX Coral scheduled for March 2006.

On the people's side, the Democrat fighting the repuke survivor show winner, will be Chris Bell, former Congressman who filed the ethics complaint on DeLay.

12. Hutchison is a political hack
She is owned by big business and has a cushy gig in DC. She will continue to line her pockets from the corrupt lobbyists in DC. She is a witch.

17. Bailey had to weigh in before she could announce her candidacy?
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 09:16 AM by rocknation
Is this required of everyone who wishes to run for office in Texas? What does Bailey's weight have to do with anything? She's getting ready to run for governor, not go fifteen rounds with Mike Tyson!

19. Gotta see that WEATHER MODIFICATION BILL of hers through
the Senate, dontcha know. Read up on S.517 and ask yourself WHY Sen. Hutchison would want to undertake "changing or controlling, or attempting to change or control, by artificial methods the natural development of atmospheric cloud forms or precipitation forms which occur in the troposphere."

Then notice how NEATLY "homeland security" and "tax relief" might dovetail into Weather Control.
