Gold Star Mothers to Admit Non - Citizens
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 9:08 p.m. ET

DALLAS (AP) -- A group for mothers whose children died in war voted Monday to allow non-U.S. citizens to join, after coming under criticism for denying membership to a Filipina mother whose son was killed in Afghanistan.

The 1929 charter of American Gold Star Mothers had prevented foreign citizens from joining. Earlier this year, the organization's 12-member executive board voted against changing the rule.

..cut..

More than 140 military service members who were not U.S. citizens have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Legal residents who are not citizens have long served in the U.S. military.

..more at link

So almost 1/10 of the deaths in Iraq are non US citizens...

1. Yeah after they suffered a HUUUUUUGE public relations black eye...
after their president said something like, "well we can't just go changing the rules".

Bravo to them for seeing the light, but to hell with them for being such assholes in the first place.

The head of the Filipina mother's chapter was such a hardass, saying how difficult it would be to change the org's charter.. guess it wasn't too hard, eh?

6. Excellent. I wrote them and told them they should be ashamed for
such behavior. She, the Filipina mother, gave no less than they did. All have paid enough already.

8. I don't suppose you'd consider writing and thanking them
for seeing the light?

Ya never know where it might lead. Just sayin'.

7. Kick for this good news
I was very disappointed a few weeks ago to read of the Fillipina mother who was denied membership. That was a definite slight on the Gold Stars' part. I'm glad to see it has been corrected.

Just can't go changing the rules, huh? Payback's a bitch--especially when you act like one.

10. Interesting litte tidbit on their web site
Hillary Clinton Story Not True
With regard to the NewsMax article concerning our organization, the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., deeply regret the misunderstanding about Senator Hillary Clinton. The two mothers who visited Washington did not have an appointment with the Senator and she was not in her office on that day. We would appreciate it if the e-mails and negative comments about Senator Clinton would cease.

12. Smoke and Mirrors and PR screw up...
Got to remember where these gold star mothers are based. Dallas. repuke land of white baptists.

Letting in a non-american, non-white, non-english speaking, non-christian galled them, however, just like most repukes, they have to put on a shiny happy face to cover there obvious racist feelings.

So they allowed this one person in, does that fill their quota???? Are they going to let the others in that are non-whites? Somehow I doubt it. This will quietly disappear and the new member who is a Mexican citizen will be regulated to the back of the bus, metaphorically.

These people make me sick.

13. big whoopti doo
Is the sorrow of the Filpina mother whose son was killed be any less now that she has been admitted to the Gold Star mothers. Smacks of exclusivity (whatever that means).

14. If I were one of the denied for my citizenship
I would refuse to join the club. It would be an admission of my own racisim against myself and others not good enough to be in their nasty little club. In fact if I were asked to join the club even as an american citizen I would refuse.
Nasty pukes
:puke:
