Arroyo's husband 'to move abroad'

Philippines President Gloria Arroyo has said her husband, accused of
influence-peddling, is to move abroad.

The move is seen as an attempt to silence calls for Mrs Arroyo, who
also faces accusations of election fraud, to step down.

Mrs Arroyo did not say how long Jose Miguel, widely known as Mike,
would remain abroad, or where he would go.

Opposition lawmakers have accused him of taking bribes from gambling
syndicates. He denies the charges.

"My husband has volunteered to go abroad ... to remove himself from
any situation which will cast doubts on my presidency," Mrs Arroyo
told a business forum in Manila.

1. Nice christian lady?
Her job is more important than her marriage? So much for the concept of stand by your man.

Arroyo, give it up. Its too late to save your sorry ass.

2. Wow
I admit, I know very little about the political situation there right now, but watching her actions over the past week show someone who is very much in trouble.

3. They all start out as clean cut reformers
After a few years of Graft, Corruption and Bribery

They all seem to slink to the United States and buy real estate in Hollywood, New York and Florida

Their ill gotten gains securely tucked away in some Swiss Bank

LOL

4. She's a star in the international media this week.
Not quite the kind of attention she would like though. I guess the sharks smell blood.

peso tumbling
stocks being dumped
allies dumping her
calls for impeachment
calls for resignation
scandals
renewed attacks
blah blah

The only positive thing I could see in the headlines was "Arroyo apologizes".

8. Arroyo sends her husband into exile to deflect scandal
Embattled Philippine President Gloria Arroyo announced yesterday that her controversial husband is going into foreign exile but indicated that she would tough it out against opposition moves to oust her over alleged election cheating.
Arroyo told a business conference she was pushing through with her reform agenda amid a "looming oil crisis" after getting Congress to pass painful revenue measures.

Arroyo is saddled with an impeachment complaint in Congress and rock-bottom public approval ratings after she publicly admitted on Monday to improperly calling an election official during vote-counting in last year's presidential election.
