Iraqis show range of reactions to Bush pledge to stay course in

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Some Iraqis agree with President Bush's vow to stick with his Iraq strategy. Others say they're fed up with what they consider a U-S "occupation."

Iraqis had mixed reactions to last night's Bush speech. One Iraqi housewife says the presence of foreign troops has caused a lot of problems. But a Baghdad professor says Iraq wouldn't be stable if coalition forces left.

Whatever Bush's promises, a Kurdish lawmaker says Iraqis still don't have basic security or services such as electricity or water.

The Bush speech came on the one-year anniversary of the return of Iraqi sovereignty. But many ordinary Iraqis believe the U-S troop presence keeps local officials from truly controlling Iraqi affairs.

1. The Dems need to show an exit strategy
Show how they would take the money spent on Bases, and using it to clean up and fix the country.
Bring the Military back to the "Liberates" not "Occupiers".

WE NEED A PLAN
A VISION
ANYONE????

Martians? Anyone??

2. I think a good term is Enablers
USA troops are just enablers for the Iraqi forces to not stand up on their own. Nothing will change unless we FORCE them to act on their own behalf. That will not happen until the USA is out of the picture entirely.

5. AP: Iraqis Split Over Bush Pledge on Troops
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqis were divided Wednesday over President Bush's rejection of a timetable for the withdrawal of American troops, which came as insurgents bent on starting a civil war blew up a natural gas pipeline and killed a police officer.

A former Sunni Arab Cabinet minister also formed a political front to represent the demands of an umbrella group of insurgents demanding a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal and an end to all military offensives in Iraqi cities.

The U.S. military also said a mortar attack in the northern town of Tal Afar had killed four Iraqis, including a child, late Tuesday.

An explosion thought to be the work of saboteurs damaged a natural gas pipeline linking storage facilities in Yousfiyah, south of Baghdad, to one of two plants where the gas is bottled in the capital. The extent of the damage was unclear and it was not known if it would lead to a shortage. Most people in Baghdad use gas for cooking.
