Bush Declares Sacrifice in Iraq to Be 'Worth It'

By DAVID E. SANGER
Published: June 29, 2005

FORT BRAGG, N.C., June 28 - President Bush, facing a growing restiveness around the country and in his own party over the constant stream of casualties in Iraq, declared Tuesday night that the daily sacrifice of American lives in Iraq "is worth it, and it is vital to the future security of our country."
...

As he has in the past, the president melded the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with the enemies Americans now face in Iraq.
...

While offering no new strategies in a war that has now stretched for 25 months, with no diminishing of attacks on American forces, he explained that he would not send more troops to face the insurgency in Iraq, unless asked by commanders there, because it would "undermine our strategy of encouraging Iraqis to take the lead in this fight."
...

The Department of Defense has identified more than 1,730 casualties among American military personnel.

2. When he has a vested personal loss
in this war like the loss of a loved one or the loss of limbs, then I will hear talk of sacrifices being worth it. I am sure alot of parents would say of their dead children it was not worth it...

4. Then sign your daughters up, Mr. Bush
I guess it's worth the sacrifice as long as the sacrifice is not YOUR loved ones. Sickening.

7. The Daughters
According to someone on a call-in radio show, one of the Bush duaghters is planning to enlist to show her support for her father's policy in Iraq. Now that would show some real guts and a model for our current women and men sacrificing their lives.

8. Yeah right
If you believe that - I've got some prime swamp land to sell you. No way, ain't going to happen. They don't spill their blood for conquests.

His statement reminds of Lord Fawkwad (?) in Shriek.

9. I'll believe it when I see it.
Before the election they had plans to teach in Harlem or D.C. (Jenna) and work with AIDS victims (Barb). Guess what? A year after graduation, neither has a job.

11. OK. So WHEN is he going to send the bu$h twins over there to die?
WHEN?

Would THAT BE WORTH IT?

It's the SAME sacrifice he demands of everyone else.

13. Well sure it's been worth it to him and his cronies
Sucks to be you, though.

A few billion here, a few billion there, a little spillage, some cost overruns, and all the administration fatcats and their financial backers are looting the U.S. Treasury like it's their own personal piggy bank. Oh sure, some people have gotten wounded or maimed, some have even been killed, but that's a risk they're willing for you to take so that they can augment their personal fortunes.

17. The smirk is missing!
I won't say it's gone, but clearly the after shot shows * with an expression of realized futility, not the impudent smirk we are all so used to.

The times they are a-changin'.
