The same California voters who gave Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger rave reviews in his victory in the unprecedented 2003 recall election aren't interested in a 2006 sequel by the actor-turned-politician, according to a Field Poll released today.

In a startling reversal of public opinion, 57 percent of the state's registered voters would not support Schwarzenegger's re-election next year, up from 42 percent in a February poll. Those who would vote to return him to Sacramento tumbled from 56 percent to 39 percent.

The governor, who has yet to announce a candidacy that has been taken as a given since his first day in office, finds himself running slightly behind two Democratic challengers, state Treasurer Phil Angelides and state Controller Steve Westly, in head-to-head matchups.

"There's a broad-ranging discontent among voters, with people turning away from the governor,'' said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.

Is that during the special election less than half the normal precincts were available. Large inner city areas like LA and Oakland were the ones that felt the pinch the most. While Orange County, and the San Juaquin Valley were hardly effected at all. It was just another case of Republican election rigging. If they can dampen the turnout they can even win in California.

I have said this many times. The stranglehold on this county is breathtaking. Remember the bankruptcy in 1994? No one was held accountable. I actually FEAR contacting my Rep. Our Kerry Rally last year drew about 60 people. What really made me mad was that no one from the Loretta Sanchez headquarters endorsed, advertised or showed up for it. President Clinton campaigned for her here (I was there) but she has not once returned the favor.
But voting places are everywhere, never a shortage.

As far as the groper is concerned, it is true, people actually think they now 'know a rock star' personally because they voted for him. Hopefully these poll numbers are right and enough will get him out of my state before he ruins it.

Of these, AS got 3.74 million

So he started with about 47% = 3.74/7.96. That doesn't sound like a completely star-struck population to me.

and the so called energy crisis happened on his watch. Bush just inheritied the problem and made it that much worse....

And California's "deregulation?" That came out of a Democratic legislature with overwhelming support among Democrats (even though progressives and Greens warned them time and again what would happen).

It's easy to blame the Republicans for things like that because of course, they'd do it again anywhere they could- but it's important not to forget that Dems are fully capable and prepared to date rape you too, given half the chance.

Clinton and the DLC types were way too "business friendly," but Bush had a chance to intervene and ask FERC to cap prices, which he didn't do and they would be unlikely to do since bush appointed Ken Lay's choice to head that regulatory agency.

There should be a way to make this distinction so people know we aren't just giving blind allegiance to the Democratic Party, maybe say GOP and Republican with an asterisk (GOP*) and the asterisk would mean you include corporate whore dems.
